Acknowledge that the initial TV report was wrong but, nevertheless an An-26 WAS shot down IN THIS REGION on the 14th July. I saw it on the ASN website the other day while looking at some unrelated incident. Malaysian will be taken to task for not paying attention to recent shoot downs over Ukraine, when this goes to their equivalent of public enquiry.
Just sayin'.

It would be a bit much but the fact that other airlines are now re-routing, in response to this incident, tells me that they could have started doing that, on a precautionary basis, as soon as the region went into crisis.
p.s. Newsnight pundit rated the Buk as good for 20,000m (70,000ft). Airlines had been riding their luck and working on the basis of 31,000ft+ being safe from G2A threats. :-/

The glaring fact is that Russia is fighting a war in Ukraine, supplying missiles and logistic support.
Moscow has seen ex-Soviet countries gaining independence and looking towards the West. It looks like the good old "send in the tanks" generals are coming out of retirement, with Mr KGB Putin at their head.

seems to be the beebz view as well.
The tree-hugging innumerates at the Beeb seem to have forgotten (Lockerbie) that it takes 20 min or so for an aircraft to fall out of the sky at 30 000. So it is untrue to say - too short for any transmissions to be made.
Thank God for Ickvaldir and Chill - - both clearly didnt read meedja studies at uni.....

So according to U.S. Senator John McCain, "there's going to be hell to pay if Russian forces or pro-Russian separatists downed MH17"
What if it is proven that it was in actual it was the Ukrainian Government forces who downed this aircraft, would that be any more less acceptable?
