Suicide is a selfish cowards way out, and this guy certainly made sure the woman who left him didn't forget him

Where does it say that he planned this finding out which train she was driving, working out what time it would be passing and then jumping under that train as I can't see that in your link?

Isn't it possible it's just a horrible coincidence that she was driving the train that he decided to throw himself under?
Nope - you're wrong C&J.

It may have been a tragedy that this man was driven to suicide, and I may have had some sympathy with him, if I knew the detail of his circumstances.

But the means by which he accomplished the deed was utterly evil - beyond any possible civilised behaviour - as such we have a perfect right to heap opprobrium on his head.

Henrietta - what you say may just possibly be true ... but do you honestly believe that it is likely?

Most coincidences are nothing of the sort - I cannot believe that this was.
Sunnydave it does llok that way but is possible that it isn't.

How could we find out?

Did he definitely plan to throw himself under that train? Did he leave a note? Could it be possible that he was depressed following the split, knew that she would be passing in that train and just wanted to be near her? Maybe at the last moment decided to take his own life?

I wasn't there, I don't know the thought process that he had at the time. Neither does anyone else.

Poor soul.

Colin.....'To be driven to suicide is a tragedy itself it does not need arm chair doctors to comment on the persons state of mind.'

Suicide is a choice that someone makes......and this selfish man chose to do it so that it had maximum effect on his ex-girlfriend (not to mention the family member who will have had to identify what was left of him)

Nobody in their right mind would ever ......... need more be said?
How did he find out which train she would be driving? Pretty sure if i phoned my local railway company and asked the names of the drivers, i'd politely be told that they don't give out such information.

An evil, planned, cowardly, selfish act carried out to leave a permanent mental scar on the life of the woman whose only crime was to leave him

Anyone who says he wasn't 'in the right mind' is kidding themselves
There only is the one line, I'm sure he would know her shift pattern.

//How did he find out which train she would be driving? //

there's only 2 train companies operating out of Fort William, and only 4-6 trains per day each way. it wouldn't be difficult, simple observation would work it out in a week or so.

He has a small son too... That's the one thing I can never get my head around...A parent burdening a child with the taking of their life... It happened to my SiL and she has never really got over it :o(

Things must be so bad, It's something I really can't identify with, so can't really comment further
It would just about make a script for 'Alfred Hitchcock Presents'. A suicide with a 'twist'.

If it was a co-incidence it's one hell of a one. He could have chosen a million of methods that why I believe he took a calculation with negligible risk that he was wrong in his belief that she would be driving the train.
I don't believe suicide is a selfish act, but what this man did was calculated and very very wrong,, not the suicide , how/where/when he did it.
and they say Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned. This act is obviously intended to be as harsh as possible - he was making a statement.

Over the last few years there has been cases of Fathers committing suicide with the children, again designed to cause the maximum effect and lash out in the worst way possible.
