Suicide is a selfish cowards way out, and this guy certainly made sure the woman who left him didn't forget him

cant find any words to say really...vindictive maybe???
Would it have been more unselfish if he had not killed himself this way? He still leaves a son, friends and family in trauma whichever method he used.
I fully understand why someone would want to kill themselves but this is a very cruel way of doing it.

The poor woman has this incident in her mind for the rest of her life, Evil thing for the guy to do.
it would have been the same whoever was driving.
Anyone who commits suicide in this way is selfish in my opinion because they are involving someone else. There is nothing a train driver can do to prevent a collision.

Yes but his son/friends/family weren't driving the train

His mindset was obviously 'ok you've left me but I'll make sure you think about me every day for the rest of your life'
A friend of mine was on the footplate of a 125 when a women committed suicide. They were on a long straight and saw her step onto the track about half a mile in front. He says the thing he'll never forget was the way she just stood there smiling up at them as she went under the train.

'it would have been the same whoever was driving'

Same result yes, but other train drivers wouldn't have been his ex-girlfriend

//Suicide is a selfish cowards way out//

I'm sorry joeluke, suicide is not a cowards way out, it is generally carried out by someone who has reached the end of his line, and can see no light at the end of the tunnel, in fact it is a very brave step to take.

The person in question here may be an exception to the rule, and I am desperately sad for the driver of the train, and the man's son and family.
Type Your Answer Here...Agreed joeluke but like with robin williams someone is going to find him and everyone is going to know he killed himself.

If this guy who threw himself under the train had money problems, anxiety depression and an incurable disease would you feel slightly more sympathetic towards him?
I agree suicide isn't cowardly. This is no exception, it is vindictive. And pointless longer term anyway, for human beings adjust and move on eventually. Of course it won't be forgotten but a place will be reached when it is rarely brought to mind. It is a tragedy for all concerned.

Toffee......it IS the cowards way out, it causes untold grief for family/friends affected by it

Henri......'If this guy who threw himself under the train had money problems, anxiety depression and an incurable disease would you feel slightly more sympathetic towards him?'

No because basically he forced his ex to watch and take part in his suicide

If he wanted to end it all there are countless methods he could have used but he obviously planned this meticulously - finding out which train she was driving, working out what time it would be passing his chosen place of death etc
It could be argued that this man just wasn't in his right mind at the time of his suicide.

I hope the poor ex-girlfriend will get over this in time. Such a tragic story for anyone involved, including the man himself.
Definitely not selfish, but very disturbed alas.
"I agree with Joe"

[ now there are four words I don't write very often ]

Utterly, poisonously vindictive; totally selfish.

Don't give me any sob stuff about how depressed or mentally unbalanced he was.

This was a meticulously planned, heartless, evil act - designed to wreck the poor woman's life.

I hope he burns in hell.

[ other afterlifes are available - he can have whichever one he believed in - as long as it hurts ... forever ]
I must disagree with you joeluke, I have had the misfortune to have known two people who committed suicide, in neither case was it a cowards way out, it was the result of a very disturbed mind.

I still miss them, and continue to be saddened by their sad demise.
Question Author
How is it not selfish when the complete act was carried out for his own means - to punish his ex-girlfriend for leaving him
As I said earlier.....

The person in question here may be an exception to the rule, and I am desperately sad for the driver of the train, and the man's son and family.
