I have yet to read of a valid reason for the wearing of a burka.

Can those in favour address the issue that I have asked before on AB and Prudie has put forward on this thread..............Why should men as individuals be allowed to dictate what a woman wears but society as a whole can not?

Don't think we can ban it but the rules should be fair, I can't go into a shop with a bike helmet on for security reasons, why should others not have to display their faces as well... minor point but important to me.... fair society???

How much more secure would this make the UK?, it might have forced 1 bank robber to adopt a different disguise, maybe buy a balaclava, is it worth sacrificing some liberty for?, once it is gone it does not return.

Whose liberty is really being sacrificed at the hands of the defenders? Certainly the liberty of the women who have come to live in a western society, and yet, because of the dictates of their home culture and the men in their lives, are not free to integrate wholly into the society they now find themselves in. I’ll ask you the same question I asked hc4361 – are you sure you know what you’re really defending? You and the people who think like you are doing those women no favours whatsoever – but you’re a big help to their backward and domineering fathers and husbands.

You could say that about terrorism per-se, should we sacrifice the liberty of some now, just because no terrorist incidents are taking place at the moment?

What is now stopping a group of terrorists to use the disguise of the burka to commit an atrocity, would then be the right time to ban this potential disguise?

Slapshot maybe you should take it up with the shop that disallows you wearing a bike helmet because plainly if they have a rule about that but nothing else then that is indeed unfair. And rather pointless.

ANOTHEOLDGIT, In Scotland, it is legal under the Criminal Law (Consolidation) (Scotland) Act 1995 Section 49 5(c) to wear a sgian-dubh or other weapon, as part of any national costume.

In England and Wales, it is legal under the Criminal Justice Act 1988 section 139 and the Offensive Weapons Act 1996 section 4 for someone wearing the national costume of Scotland to carry a sgian-dubh

Ichkeria.... it's everywhere can't believe you've never seen, is it pointless, trivial maybe but the point stands if I can't walk into a bank or post office or corner shop withoit taking my full face helmet off for security reasons why should people be wllowed in wearing a burka???
