The sad demise of a harmless British tradition, brought low by a phalanx of hairy feminists and liberal yoghurt knitters?

Or the welcome eradication of a blatantly sexist anachronism in what purports to be a family newspaper?

You might assume from my inclusion of the words 'phalanx', 'anachronism' and 'purports' in the above questions, that I am one of the aforementioned liberal yoghurt-knitter, but personally I don't have any strong feelings one way or the other about the future of Page Three...

...other than it might make room for more stories about Kim Kardashian...which I think we can all agree is a very bad thing indeed.

Doesn't bother me either way but the words 'Kim Kardashian' should worry anyone with any intelligence :-)

But other than Trevor Brooking were the guys pics just as cheap and tacky as the girl's pics?

Yes sir...unimaginably so.
I'm sure Katie Price would have earned 40 million quid even if she didn't get her fame from doing page3.

She would have probably been a successful singer or author.
Lol...I actually like Katie Price. She's made good. Who cares about ghost writers when the ££££££ are rolling in.
What a shame........a part of the curriculum for a successful warrior ( hunter-gatherer) is a glance at page 3 of the Sun.....your first massage parlour and your first experience with a prostitute.

Many pretty girls have been presented on Page 3.

RIP Page 3
Sigh

I have always thought the poses to be somewhat odd - a woman smiling brightly, but exposing her breasts always looked really odd, as though no-one was really sure why it was happening.

I do believe the concept to be well outdated - it doesn't help to educate young men about respect for women, or themselves.
Gosh you have never had a woman smile at you while she had no top on ?

You have my deepest sympathies.
Well now it'll save me the job of removing all those bazookas from the scrap newspapers I use to wrap items for shipping -maybe I'll keep then and send them to the gentlemen on AB who will be mourning their demise.
Is the Sun trying to attract the Muslim reader?

Surely if one is offended by such things, one does not have to buy the newspaper, I don't and I am not even offended.

Since we seem to be harking back to Victorian times, can one buy covers for table legs these days?

Old_Geezer - smiling while dressed as a topless tennis player with an inane annotation to the effect that chantelle loves animals is kind to old people and wants to be a nursery school teacher....
A harmless tradition.
Of all the things to put time and energy into campaigning against?
My life is no better or worse for page 3, I just don't see any harm in it.
AOG, yes you can just not buy the paper if you're offended by page 3. However, it just makes me uncomfortable seeing the men I work with look at it. That's not a Victorian attitude.
By the way it's a myth that they covered up table legs because they were embarrassed/ offended or anything like that. It was simply to protect them from knocks.

/// I don't see why women have to whip them out to please men???? ///

Better tell that to all those women who try to expose as much as is legal in public places, why else do they do it, if not to please the men?
anotheroldgit - this is not a black and white situation - I'm not offended one bit by nudity but think a daily newspaper is not the place for topless models. Would you be happy for your grandchild to be on page three? What about children? 'Mummy why is that lady showing her boobies in the paper? Answer that one -oh because she has no aspirations to go to school and get an education because she can show them off in the paper and get loads of money -fantastic role models they are aren't they?

//because she has no aspirations to go to school and get an education//

Didn't realise Page 3 did Pre-school, it's a bad day when you don't learn something.
// because she has no aspirations to go to school and get an education because she can show them off in the paper and get loads of money -fantastic role models they are aren't they? //

How do you know that??
I dated a girl who did some glamour modelling (a few years back)
She saw the opportunity to make some relatively quick and easy money for a period of about 18 months, but also had 4 A levels and 2:1 from Manchester Met. I hear she is doing very well now. Should we judge her solely on her choices to model for a brief period of her life?

/// I don`t think it ever had a place in a national newspaper. ///

It did it was called 'Page 3'.
Sorry Baldric did not realise the pedantic police were about. Maybe I should have said 'college' instead of school. Forgive me, I once went topless in St.Tropez and lost a significant amount of brain cells. ;-)
