I see you have to resort to your usual rudeness
"...it proves that having the surgery did not solve their mental health issues"

True, this isn't the sort of thing to be entered into lightly. But surgery can help some people, and so it should be available.

Divebuddy, I'm glad that they can in principle -- obviously in practice it's unfeasible, but then it's a better situation than, say, in the US, where life-saving surgeries are not freely available unless you have a ton of money. Note this this applies in the US to all types of surgery, and not just this particular type.
Jim360 Gender is more than a physical thing its a state of mind..not in the eyes of the law its not.
retrocop -I see you have to resort to your usual misogynist comments
Not sure what you mean, retrochic, as people can now have their birth certificate gender reassigned in the UK from what they were biologically identified as.

Why is it only the "right on lefties" who are always willing to help those in need?
-- answer removed --
doesn't matter what docs they have or what bits they don't have, born XY will always be XY, ditto born XX, end of.
jim they can 'apply' to have it reassigned and have to jump through hoops to get it. I meant you can't just decide one day you're gonna be a woman ,change your name to joanna and be legally a female in the eyes of the Law.
What about XXY, Tora? OR XYY or XXX ... Sexual biology is already complicated!

Ah, fair enough retrochic -- yes, it's not an easy process and does take a bit of paperwork, but it is at least possible.

Why is it only the "right on lefties" who are always willing to help those in need? "

because a lot of the time its other peoples money theyre using, and they also seem to have a propensity to help others from outside rather than their own who should take priority in most instances...

the fact you even needed to ask sums you up really
Tora -look up Pseudohermaphroditism
i don't quite get what surgery she wants if she already has had the chop
I imagine she still wants vaginoplasty, bednobs.
If it is a state of mind then, as it would seem lots of Americans run off to their personal shrinks so this male should employ the services of a shrink in the US.
My wife has worked in the NHS for forty years. If she required breast reconstruction she would have to pay for it.
If this person hopes to work for a year then the N.I. contributions would come no where near covering the cost to the NHS. It is not just a nip and tuck. Loads of phsychiatric counselling, drugs, theatre staff and time and a badly needed hospital bed. The NHS would have to lose thousands of pounds for this procedure which it can ill afford. I would rather this dreamer be denied a UK hospital bed than ,say, a badly burned fire victim.
bednobs he has had his testes removed. I would presume the next stage is to create a vagina for him using the skin of the penis -I would presume this is quite a difficult operation so very expensive.
I'm talking about most jim nopt the rare oddities. Pound to a penny this bloke is an XY.
"Shrink". Sigh...

As I said earlier, T T T, there's more to gender than just biological gender.
Are You One Of The Good People Of Britain ...................

Hard for me to answer that based on such little information available.

It strikes me that Gina is simply floating this idea across the World wide media to gauge an opinion,I doubt it will come to fruition.

If indeed she does come over then works and seeks help from the NHS,she will have to convince Doctors and Psychiatrists the same as any other person.

Gender reassignment is always going to cause great debate and it is a complex and difficult area and I guess it is easy to be glib when unaffected oneself.

I have no idea what 'wing' I am or whether I fall into the category of a 'Lady' for the purposes of this discussion.

gness.
Nothing crude in my 1408 post. Some people love their rose tinted spectacles and believe all is well in La La land in which they dwell under a haze of alcohol half the time it seems.
