Mixed Message
pop star JAMELIA, on the Loose Women panel today, said "You're not supposed to say Mixed Race anymore -the correct term is Dual Heritage". We're you aware of this?

What one must ask from all this you must not say this or you must not say that, or it will or may cause offence.
Why is that certain parts of our society are given the exclusive right to choose what does or may cause offence?
I am sure that I am not on my own in saying that many things cause me offence, but as a white male, there is no way that I could possibly get a ban put on them.

It depends on context - westerns have by and large fallen out of favour since their heyday of the 1930s - 1960s, but the few westerns that are made today still feature words that are appropriate to the time in which they are set (eg. Django Unchained / True Grit (the excellent Coen brothers remake)!vs. No Country For Old Men / The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada)

I do wonder if my eyesight is what it might be though - I'd had quite a few pints with the fluffy one (spread over several meetings) before it even occurred to me that she was 'of mixed message' - and that was only because she mentioned her mum coming to the UK.

I don't think that's quite true though, is it?
I distinctly recall you getting very offended when another AB contributor referred to you as Git (despite this being part of your username).
Furthermore, there are words that young gentlemen down the pub on a Friday night may call their mates which they would avoid in your presence as you are an older person.
There are words that I would say in front of my own mates that I would not say in front of my mother.
I would suggest that there are subsets of words that offend many different groups, and my guess is that you have a set (like the 'B' word) that offend you.

Wouldn't that also be deemed offensive.
Can't understand this colour thingy, it would seem that it is perfectly correct to call a white person "White" and a black person "Black" (that is until such time they decide that is also offensive) but one is now no longer allowed to put "Red" before Indian.

Everyone has a right to choose what offends them, I have the right to think they are being oversensitive or precious. This debate only really gets talked about on the WWW. anyway.......? (99%)?

One is no longer able to abbreviate the word Pakistani, simply because those and others have decided that it is offensive.
Well as you know I am a staunch believer in a 'level playing field' so I have decided that being called a 'Brit' is offensive, since I am an Englishman, and while I am at it being called a 'little Englander' is also offensive to me.
