pop star JAMELIA, on the Loose Women panel today, said "You're not supposed to say Mixed Race anymore -the correct term is Dual Heritage". We're you aware of this?

All that you say may be correct SP but have any of those words been removed from the English language, no longer to be used?
Yes it is in the real world, we are not just talking about what some say on this site, but even if you are some words are censored out, were as Old Git etc would not be.

I have many times explained why I chose that name, but I will repeat it again, in those early days of my membership there was a TV programme where a group of persons of advanced years gathered to discuss in a light-hearted fashion issues effecting real life, I think it was called 'Old Gits' or similar, so I decided to add to their membership and be given a voice on AB. by calling myself anotheoldgit, and the reason that I left the 'R' out was because once one was only allowed to have no more than 12 letters in one's username.

I've been on here far too long not to notice a little ground bait being scatted, so I am afraid you will have to be content, and gain your rather strange enjoyment from others, who must also hold certain words that are offensive to them, in the hope that they may be removed from the English language.

If I am correct in my interpretation of your statement, does that mean it is also offensive to call someone from Nigeria, African or even Afro?

It was not a question put up for general AnswerBank debate, and since I had on numerous occasions been asked the very same question and I had (as I have earlier) given the reason for the missing 'R' which was also verified by the ED himself, I found that "NO" was an appropriate enough answer to your query.

I can't help viewing your attitude to 'Brit' as faux offence, with the purpose of mocking the offence which the P word (and others) caused.
If the word was delivered at me with the contemptuous inflection and facial expression (optional spittle) of a sterotypical Union-Jack-clad skinhead, then I might be able to empathise with your point of view.
It's the smug sense of superiority which gets people down. That's how racial labels began and that is why they should be brought to an end.
Historical authenticity merely stirs up the sediments every time we get anywhere near comfortably settled.
On the other hand, I do see PC-ness as an exercise in crowd pleasing. It's the way politicians try to indulge every section of the crowd because they'd stoop to any depths to get votes.
If you're not a politician, or have no other reason to make yourself popular, then why bother being PC? You'll only drive away the people whose habits you already express a dislike for.

Regarding the P*ki word who deemed if offensive enough not to be used?
Would it be abusive to state "I am going to the P*ki shop on the corner" knowing full well that the owner was from Pakistan, but you didn't know their name?
