vetuste_ennem....a word on minorities. I presume that you are based in the USA ? In Britain, the ban wasn't on smoking or smokers itself, but on the practise of smoking in public indoor places.

You don't give freedom and liberty to one group of people, by taking it away from another group of people. Now that we have the ban in place, everybody can enjoy their food and drink without having to breath in the minority of other people's smoke. Everybody is now protected, including the smokers, at a minor inconvenience to a small minority.

Is that so unreasonable ?

I still haven't made myself clear, Mikey: I was describing the ban on vaping as fascist. I accepted the ban on smoking in restaurants, etc. as reasonable even though I was then a smoker and we used pubs and restaurants all the time
I agree totally with your remark about freedom. In fact I've taken it down and it may be used as evidence against you if ever I find you contradicting the principle in afuture post.

Quite so, Mushroom. I was commenting on Mikey's point about democracy (although we were talking somewhat at cross purposes) when he referred to "winning the argument" by vote. A law based on a majority opinion is not "right" (whether in the sense of true or moral) simply because the majority is for it. In fact it is possible that it can be wrong in both senses. More is needed to ensure the a society is civilised and its laws just - in our case traditional beliefs in equality before the law, freedom of speech, freedom of religion etc.

as I've said a thousand times I don't give a rats 4r53 whether it's bad health wise, I hate the disgusting smell including the new gunk they suck on. I don't care if it's water vapour I don't like the air full of smoke that has passed through the lungs of one of these smelly individuals, even if it is supposed to smell of pot porri, it doesn't, it invariably smells like old socks being boiled for a week. Smokers had it their way until 2007 when their selfish disgusting smelly house was put in order for them. Yes AOG diesal cars pump out fumes but that is not the point I ever make.

You need to take a chill pill, tora. The way you're going the only fumes you'll be smelling will be from embalming fluid. (Have you ever considered taking up smoking? It's very relaxing)
