You asked:

'Should A Certain Section Of The Gay Community Receive Extra Support From Government, Just Because They Happen To Be Muslims?"

Emphatically yes.
And we're back on track - thanks SP!!

I would like to be associated with the remarks of the last speaker.
Let me explain (was focussed on separating the Beatles White Album after mixing up disk 1 and 2 in iTunes)...

If someone is unduly facing harassment for no fault of their own, then it is right that extra resources.

As an example - I get on well with my neighbours. I would not expect the police to come visit me. What would be the point?

But if my neighbour was harassing me, scrawling offensive messages on my garden gate, or physically or verbally attacking me - then yes, I would expect assistance from the State (in this case, the police).
andy-hughes, //You presume to know what I think?//

Not at all. You've told us what you think.
SP, Andy hasn't done his homework. Do you think you or your expert DTCrosswordfan could help him out?
Apologies for the omission of the quotation marks around the word expert.

So what if he's a Muslim?

No other person has the right to harass him.

Full stop.

He can walk up and down the high street in full drag if he wants...because this is a free country and he is not breaking the law.

Also, he is calling for government funding for charities that support gay Asians, isn't he? I don't get the impression that this is about him per se.
SP, //So what if he's a Muslim? No other person has the right to harass him.//

Surely that applies to everyone, so why is he ….

//calling for government funding for charities that support gay Asians//?

…. and why are you supporting that?

Of course everyone is entitled to live their lives free of harassment, but, by definition, some minority groups do suffer harassment, and that is why support is asked for.

I would have thought sp's support was a given!
andy-hughes, this man's request for government funding specifically for Asian gays, and yours and SP's support for him, suggests that you all feel that Asian gays suffer greater harassment than the rest. Why do you think that is?

Obviously I cannot speak for sp1814, but I do not intend to suggest that I feel that Asian gays suffer greater harassment than the rest, so I have no viewpoint to offer.

My stance is that any minority suffering oppression for whatever reason, deserves appropriate support - I do not section them depending on the reasons for their minority status.

You are in this instance.
If anybody is being harassed or assaulted for whatever reason EVERYBODY is entitled to the protection of the laws in this country without fear or favour.
There is no need for additional funding just because a individual life style is chosen.
We all take our own paths in this country by choice.
I would of thought hate crime offences have been well documented and shown to be dealt with already.
andy, you are answering comments from directly above your replies...there really is no need for the C&P.
Retrocop, Ethnicity rather than lifestyle is the central issue here. Gay is gay - but this man wants more funding specifically for Asian gays.

If they don't 'suffer greater harassment' than the rest, then how can you support them wanting extra help?
^precisely.
naomi
I take your point but hate crime covers racism as well as homophobia.
