It appears that our culture of accepting arrest for drink-driving as an occupational hazard is not disappearing as quickly as we might hope.
My views on drink driving are very simple - zero tolerance, lifetime ban.
Any thoughts?

“…it would be interesting to hear the views of someone who has lost a loved one through a drunk driver.”
People suffering such tragedies are not best placed to determine sentencing, viv. A number of people lose loved ones due to speeding motorists. A lifetime ban or doing 35 in a 30? Some lose cyclist loved ones, victims of lorries turning left whilst they were up their inside. A lifetime ban?
Don’t get me wrong, I have no whatsoever for drink drivers. They deserve all they get in accordance with the law. But sentences need to be proportionate to the crime.

You are not going to be 'over the limit' for having 2 glasses of wine the previous evening. Of course this has to be 'normal' size wine glasses 125ml.
There is a lot of rubbish being talked here.
But driving 'the morning after' is a problem, the difficulty is knowing how long it takes for your body to get rid of alcohol. There is no easy rule as it depends on the individual.

Yes NJ, I got a 1 year ban back in 1998 for having a blood alcohol level of 36 micro g /litre against the limit of 35. Even the officer who charged me said it was the least over the limit he had ever seen.
Good job they did not catch me back in the 1970 s ,when I used to drive so pi***d I had to drive with one eye closed so that I could only see one road!
*** hard trying to decide which road to drive down when you can see two of them.
