/// But I cannot help observing the grotesque irony that in the capital of Germany this deluded woman should have spoken of how ‘England’s fascistic side’ affected the British view of Germany and World War II. ///
/// She even had the nerve to grumble about being ‘completely brainwashed’ by films she saw in her childhood showing the British ‘being marvellous and beating the Nazis’. ///
You can't get any more anti-British than that.

I come in peace and all that :-)

andy-hughes, I was going to come back to this thread but having read some of this afternoon’s offerings, I won’t. I have just one thing to say in response to your comment at 16:14.
//The Mail blows with the wind - it will pander to whatever current neurosis its readers are griping about//
Calling those with whom you don’t share an opinion ‘neurotic’ is precisely the sort of thing that creates and exacerbates this constant, tedious hostility.
I’ll leave ichkeria to get back to the point. Good luck, ichkeria.

I would agree – that’s why I haven’t done it.
I referred to a ‘neurosis’ – a concept not attached to any individual. I think referring to the Mail readership as a generic term is permissible, especially as I name myself among them – as you can see from my previous posts.
I know from experience that you are fond of the epithet ‘silly’ for those with whom you don’t share an opinion. I think the term is offensive, and I have told you that when it has been used against me.
So I would not dream of referring to you as being ‘silly’ – but I do think you are mistaken, and have been a little too keen to criticize me without actually reading what I have written.
I am sure I can rely on you to re-read my post, and hopefully you will see that your accusation is not valid.
This of course leaves aside your absence of any comment about the vitriol that has poured from AOG for the last several months – perhaps if you are bothered by people who don’t agree with others, you should consider swinging your spotlight in his direction.
I am sure you will have some trenchant observations about his comments, which are not generic, but entirely personal.

The idea that the Pythia spoke gibberish which was interpreted by the priests and turned into poetic iambic pentameter has been challenged by scholars such as Joseph Fontenrose and Lisa Maurizio, who argue that the ancient sources uniformly represent the Pythia speaking intelligibly, and giving prophecies in her own voice - wiki
oh ....
I thought it was incoherent and then translated into poetry
the purpose being that the priests hedge their bets
an example - put your faith in wooden walls ...
to the athenians who had a strong navy ....
apparentlly the pythia wrongly predicted the winning side in the peloponnesian war - so it must have been athens altho sparta won
and the oracle survived the whoopsie ....
applied to his thread
all entries intelligible but not that interesting .....
