In my local area an 18 year old lad stole his fathers range rover off their drive, drove around the local streets (uninsured) at 80mph, crashed in to a car, killing the driver and seriously injuring the passenger.

He got 5 years.

Can anyone tell me Johnson's crime was worse.

Why should anyone say it's worse.....or more trivial?

There is a Law in place in either circumstance and sentences for each offence.
Johnson has been sentenced; comparisons with other crimes are pointless.

What is wrong with comparing sentences for different crimes.

Why should one person get a minor sentence for a major crime, and another person get a long sentence for a fairly trivial crime.

I bet there are thousands of 15 year old girls having sex every day, many with older boys / men.

And in some countries the age of consent is 14, in others 12.

Nothing wrong with comparing sentences.

In a strange way - I feel sorry for him.

The rest of his life is ruined. Completely and utterly ruined.

And it was so easy to avoid.

The basic rule is this...

If you know someone who is throwing themselves at you is below the age of consent, walk away. Don't get involved.

No...run away.

I assume he will be on the sex offenders' register for the rest of his life, right?

Have you read the judge's comments today? I'm really dubious of your definition of 'trivial'.

Johnson is subject to English law so it is irrelevant regarding ages of consent elsewhere.

And it wasn't even consensual full sex, if he had been a woman he would have got off much more lightly, just as this woman did.

A two-year suspended sentence for a much more serious offence.

A law for one and a different law for another.
