Leave Campaign Promises

Irrespective of how you voted, does anyone share my concerns about the way the Leave campaign has backtracked on pledges regarding immigration and money for the NHS? Nigel Farage described the £350 million for the NHS as a 'mistake'. I am deeply concerned that people have been misled.

The NHS has never been in as bad a state as this before, and while there are lots of different people to blame, the Tories have been in power for over 6 years, so they are in charge.

All that they have managed to do in that time in get the bloody Doctors out of strike !

The leave campaign was simply that - a campaign for a "Leave " vote. It was not a General Election campaign where parties put forward a manifesto of proposals. What happens now - what is to be done with our saved EU contributions for example - is up to the government - the senior figures of which seem to have chucked their toys out of the pram and disappeared into the ether.

Agreed NJ...but I am still unsure why it is going to take 3-4 months for a new PM to be appointed.

I was not a supporter of BREXIT, but now that we have made a decision to leave, we should do so asap. I was listening to the business news in the early part of the Today Program this morning, and it was made quite clear that any unnecessary faffing about will only make things worse in the short term.

Reduction in NHS waste is not an indication of improvement, Naomi. Cuts were imposed upon us and we had no choice but to cut costs wherever we could. The majority of the cuts were non-clinical but demand for services continues to soar. We continue to need more funding for clinical expansion.

I assume that when we talk about cuts that are destroying the NHS we mean expenditure has continued to increase but perhaps not as fast as necessary in order to keep up with an almost limitless demand

I'm aware of that - but what others deem necessary is often clearly completely unnecessary. In my (considerable) experience the waste in the NHS is truly appalling.

Well that certainly generated some debate, some reasoned, some very, very disappointing. I read in the press that some people were taken in by the apparent pledges and now regret voting the way they did - that to me is wrong. However the result is in and no amount of carping will change this. I also find the fact that some people now feel it is acceptable to put signs saying 'no more Polish vermin' on display very disquieting and hope it is not a sign of things to come. I consider this debate has reached its conclusion. Farewell - and Godspeed Britain, whatever the ramifications of this vote.
