I initially ignored this thread title, thinking it was another of those "nahh, photoshopped, mate" type threads. I only clicked on it because it was still bubbling over, a day later.
I think it is certainly a striking image. I am sparing with dishing out superlatives and "amazing" has lost its veracity through constant over-use, often by people under 18, for things which are simply novelties to them but are mundane to over-25s, say.
It certainly does drawe in and want to know the back-story. Does the guy in mid stride manage to stop himself in a single stride or does he body-slam her at full tilt, in body armour? Or, rather, does the barrel of his automatic (or is it a rubber bullet launcher?) jab her in the stomach as he crashes into her.
The Facebooker heaping praise on it says something about the two policemen "rocking back on their heels" (I'm paraphrasing) but, because I haven't watched the video footage yet, my interpretation was that they are charging towards her, giving the narrative of excessive use of force.
The photographer only pushes the shutter button; the person who writes the article applies their own spin but the person passing the newsstand sees the photo before the editorial is even in focus. For a split second, the potential buyer has the chance to interpret the image their own way.
That's how artworks work, imho. They're never meant to have a single meaning, they're meant to have a meaning personal to the viewer.
