divebuddy - thank you for the link, I am perfectly happy to stand corrected, as I always am when proven wrong.

That does not justify your snide aside about the rest of what I post, that was unnecessary and speaks to your personal animosity towards me, the reason for which remains a mystery.

Jim, //It's not entirely accurate to say that the UK and UK system are the same anyway//

I didn't say they are the same, but the principle is the same.
Fair enough. And the principle, in both, is equally wrong.
Question Author
Jim, that's as may be. Nevertheless it's disingenuous to apply the principle to one and not to the other.
Also fair enough. And I didn't.
Question Author
Jim, I didn't say you did.
Not that it particularly matters, but there's another anomaly in the US system that is worth mentioning. Donald Trump isn't president yet, but that's not because he hasn't been sworn in. The electoral college hasn't voted yet, and hasn't yet decided who it's going to pick to become President. That will happen in December. There is no obligation, for most of the states, for the electoral college members to vote the way the electorate did. In fact, at least one college member from Washington has already sworn that he will not vote for Clinton, even though she was the winner in that state. (Thankfully, this won't matter).

All of which means that the result on Tuesday was only... advisory. Just saying.

(Of course, this is merely a technicality. No-one really expects the electoral college to ignore the will of the people...)
Jim....While I don't hold with the violence at some of these protests and condemn the occurrences, you can hardly blame Americans for feeling a bit let down by the Election. Hilary got more votes than Trump, and yet he is about the enter the White House.

Just imagine what some of our right-wingers would have thought and done, if Ed had took up residence in Number Ten, in 2015, despite gathering less votes than Dave ?

We have already been warned by TTT, of the possibility of force being used on our streets, if BREXIT isn't delivered pretty soon, and I condemn that as well.
Question Author
Mikey, what do you think of UKIP winning only one seat to the LibDems eight?
No, I absolutely don't blame anyone who feels let down by the electoral system in the US. They have a right to be angry, and a responsibility to speak out about it. Obviously, not through violent protest. Maybe some day it will change -- after,a ll, did not Donald Trump himself complain about how rigged the system was? Well, rigged against him. Presumably he doesn't believe that now -- and most likely he therefore will say nothing about it ever again.

Although, to be fair, no one else ever wants to change the system that got them elected.
Listening to donny after being elected where the problem he's gonna fix America for the Americans all of them .Whats the protesters problem ?
The bottom line is that he's been elected now so let's just give him a chance and see what he does.......

Who ever won this election , people will have protested.

And I guess you would have posted the exact same thing had Trump lost his supporters went on the rampage?

France next?

Smowball, if you're expecting that sort of plain common sense, I fear that from some quarters you're going to be disappointed. I've got a feeling this is going to go on for the next four years!
Protesting is fine. Rampaging is not. I haven't seen the news tonight but last time I heard the news the protests seemed to be peaceful in the main. (Some of those celebrating seemed a bit rowdy too - emotions are bound to be high)

They sound like uneducated moronic knuckle-draggers that have no idea how the system works ... or have no resect for the system.
Yes, very good post Talbot, I await answers!
I have a very uneasy feeling. Not about Trump being a potentially terrible President but his welfare.
Wow, they do have form in the US of A don't they. Four sitting Presidents shot and killed already. All hell would be let loose.
