Race-based discord anywhere in the world tends to occur between complete strangers.
I like to think that if a mixed race couple have got to a second date, they have managed to reach a conclusion vis-à-vis each other's skin colour, and decided that they like each other anyway, so colour is not an issue.
Does that sound feasible?

I know what it says, Zacs...but it's not just by crowdfunding though,is it?
Even so....people could have an opinion on the crowdfunding part of it. The other ways she is raising the money isn't enough to cover the costs.... I see no problem with her asking strangers to help her......some might. I was interested in people's opinion on that.

I got everything from Baz's link, Zacs......I did wonder if she was just sitting back and asking the public to fund her....seems she's not and I have more than a little sympathy for anyone who is denied an education.
Yes, I know she's not alone and more privilaged than many.......but for a parent to make life harder for a child is wrong.
And if part of what she's done is to shame her parents.....I don't mind that.

aog. //you are completely wrong, do you not read about all the troubles between blacks and whites in America? //
Yes, I do read it but that doesn't mean that all black people in America come from the back streets of Chicago and thrive on a diet of guns, drugs, violence and gang culture, no more than it means that all poor white children who were born in the East End of London (like me) live that way and become miserable failures. The majority of black people in the US live normal lives, doing normal jobs, and raise their children well, as other respectable Americans do. I think you do each and every one of them a great injustice.

“NJ, perhaps it should be 'all animals may bite you,…”
But that’s not true, jo. Many animals don’t bite at all. When trying to reduce the risk of being bitten you would only steer clear of those that you know may bite. You might not be able to do that so you identify the species that you believe pose the greatest risk. Of course it’s very unsound logic and a course of action which is not, by any means, bound to keep you safe. I was simply trying to illustrate the difference between “some lions may bite you” (which I believe to be AOG’s hypothesis) and “all lions will bite you” (to which it has been compared)

NJ - Do you think that the 'animals biting' analogy is somewhat redundant?
Animals act on instinct, and bite usually when threatened, or hungry.
Humans are by definition a far more sophisticated species, and their behaviours are governed by correspondingly more sophisticated reasons.
Unless we want to go down the hinted route that black men are actually some sort of sub-species, prone to violence because that is the way they are born?

there may well be more to this but if the parents have cut off support because she is dating someone they don't approve off for whatever reason - in this case colour then they are being racist bigots.
And trying to make someone do as you wish by controlling money is how many people of all races/sex find themselves stuck in abusive relationships....
I am also interested for personal reasons to know the "many" reasons AOG thinks interracial relationships don't work? Care to expand?
