I still prefer the plastic bag for some women !!

I think the Hijab can be very flattering.

My mother still covers her head when she goes to church.

I don't like the Burka.

My MIL is the same still covers her head at Mass.
Samjenko this post says more about you than the shop tbh!!
Agreed Islay. It also shows virtue signalling works both ways
Brown paper bag is my choice Whiskyron, wouldn't want them suffocating ;-/
I have no problem at all with hijab (or indeed any other head covering) - I can see who I'm talking with and it's fine. The burka is another matter, it has no place in any society let alone a secular, western one.

Like others, I do take issue with the concept that the hijab equates to 'modest dress' which, by extension, means that not wearing one renders a woman 'immodest' - that's a load of fetid dingo's kidneys and deserves a firm rebuttal.

I'll try to add that one to the Aussie vernacular book Dave!

You have just gained legend status.
Aye I'll boycott as I don't think a hijab would suit me, sticking with my wee tartan bunnet.

I didn't realise you bought hijabs?

Debenham's and other stores are a commercial enterprise and their purpose is to make money. So if there is sufficient demand for certain clothes, they are perfectly in their rights to stock those clothes.

Boycotting a shop because they sell an item of clothing you object to seems extreme and pretty intolerant.
Unless teamed with a dress resembling a floor length bin bag or a sack this headgear is nothing but a uniform, and as such, is the height of hypocrisy.

'it shows great moal courage and firmness of principle to boycott a shop you weren't going to anyway. Congratulations on your display of virtue.'

I see where you're coming from so I'll never buy The Independent again, either.
I'll boycott Debenhams,I never buy clothes except from charity shops anyway!
It may well lead to uptake by more and more, especially young, women.
After all it's not unknown for their modesty to suffer after a few Lambrinis.
Modest headgear is just what they need to keep their hair out of the way when expelling that second kebab at 4am of a weekend morn.
I have been not-wearing Hijabs now for many years !

But I am not sure what is wrong with women being able to buy pretty and varied Hijabs ? They would look much nicer than all those beige, brown, and back ones I see around.

Anyway, what business is it of anybody else if women choose these ?

Citizen Khan's daughter look rather nice in hers !

Mikey, you're missing the real purpose of this garment. The whole idea is supposed to be not to look 'nice'.
Samjenko - why do you want to boycott this store?
People will buy them if they like to. fashion is strange but we all follow it to some extent. Seems a bit arrogant to me to make assumptions about not wanting to look nice. We all have certain ideas as to our own modesty, what to show, what to cover up, what we want others to think.
Sam- just as an aside you may want to let Ed know your avatar isn't appearing on your posts even though it appears on your profile

fiction-factory, //Seems a bit arrogant to me to make assumptions about not wanting to look nice. //

No assumptions. Them's the rules.
Why are some people, and some on here, so obsessed about what Muslim women should wear ?

Why can't people mind their own businesses ?
