People who may want to boycott this store are probably the ones that see yet another nail being hammered into the British Culture and a step further to Sharia law.

Clearly it is not right-on to say so but people have different opinions that are just as valid as those on here who still take the scoff scoff snort snot attitude.

Will I boycott it no, I dont shop there anyway. If I did would I boycott it - yes I would.
But why YMB ?

What business is it of yours, or anybody else, if these women want to wear a colourful Hijab, rather than a dull boring one ?
A further step to Sharia law.
Really?
Would I boycott a store for selling a particular style of clothing? Absolutely not - it would make me appear an intolerant bigot, and would make no difference to the store in any way whatsoever.
Well said Andy !

In answer to you, Andy, and Islay here;
'Samjenko this post says more about you than the shop tbh!!'

I'm concerned about the Islamisation of this country.
On another thread you and Islay said, 'But no-one on this site supports Islamists'
I think they do. Not the head-choppy suicide bomber type but the insidious creep of this sort of political statement.
The compulsory introduction of halal food in prisons, etc.
The wearing of unhygienic clothing in hospitals.
Councils that stop serving pork products to our children in case a Muslim child is contaminated.
All supported by, I'm sure, well meaning people but a slippery, one way, slope to me.
'In five years this will be the norm':

I'm sure the Debenhams in Newcastle will do a roaring trade. I just hope the brains behind 'Modest fashion' doesn't get all upset like at the sight of hoards of geordie lasses getting mortal wearing a belt for a skirt a titty top and an hijab ...
YMB....how can the sale of colourful Hijabs, instead of dull, boring ones, be "A further step to Sharia law" ?

Did you think about that before you posted ?

You are an intolerant bigot, we're all intolerant bigots about something.

The only thing that I am aware of taking the stance of an intolerant bigot about - is alcohol, which I abhor, and would ban off the planet tomorrow.

But that is entirely a point of view that is utterly at odds with any scintilla of practical application, so it is taken with a wry smile, and goes no further.

Compare that with an attitude that matches what is seen as 'creeping Islamisation' with an attitude of creeping bigotry and religious persecution - nothing to smile about there.
andy-hughes, //Would I boycott a store for selling a particular style of clothing?//

No, you wouldn’t. You would just write them a stinking letter demanding that the item you find offensive be removed from sale.

There you go ... case verdict Guilty!

One what basis? For those that already wear hijabs I am sure they don't have any trouble finding them to wear. All Debenhams are doing is offering a more colourful option in the hope to gain a share of the market.
Maybe Debenhams are also hoping some non-Muslims may buy them as just a fashion item. Maybe you are worried that wearing them will lead to some nonMuslims being converted into jihadists.

We're just exchanging ideas, it's not a Star Chamber!!

Calm down!!!

First of all, I didn't 'demand' anything in my letter (kind of you to remember, this was years ago!) and secondly, I don't personally equate something which people choose to wear for religious reasons with something which could very possibly cause upset and offence.

You could argue that the hijab possibly causes upset and offence, but I would seriously struggle to find an argument supporting that view.
They do mind their own business, Mikey, I have no option on what a lady chooses to wear, but I have an opinion on what a lady is made to wear.

Maybe before making such glib observations, you'll spare a thought for all the woman and children who are beaten for not wearing a hijab.

Do you have any evidence of that - apart from the media-fed mass of anecdotal gossip that swirls around the internet, and pubs and supermarkets in this country?

You have got to be kidding me now, Andy.
andy-hughes, it wasn’t ‘years ago’, but it created such hilarity that once seen never forgotten – and your letter achieved its aim. You had the offending slippers removed from sale.
