Talbot - how did you get that picture???

That was from my private family album!!!
Naomi at 10:09 - spot on, as usual.

allen - sounds good to me - but I am not, for instance, a Muslim whose religion has passed down through thousands of years, and whose faith is bound up in daily life.

You can't simply expect to sweep that away because it is bogus, human nature doesn't work like that.

She's not a Ms, she's a Mme.
allen - no argument from me.

We live in a world riven by people who use the nonsense of religion to justify their desire to hurt and kill other people, and its hugely difficult to try and find a way past it - but that should never prevent us from trying, even if that just means voicing out views as we do on here.

The main issue is human nature - no-one with power uses that power to give themselves less of anything. Couple that with the fact that, in to reach a position where you could actually change anything, you've already proved that you entirely agree with things the way they are.

But we enjoy free speech, and we use it, and amen (!) to that.
jackdaw - //She's not a Ms, she's a Mme. //

If you want to be pedantic, she is neither, she's a Mlle. - Ms. Le Pen is not married.
Pedantic? Moi?

In France a woman over a certain age is always addressed as madame, irrespective of marital status. The use of mademoiselle has almost died out.
allen, //I think it behoves all intelligent people to see the world for what it is//

That’s exactly what the intelligent critics of religion do because they recognise that the problems in this world aren’t confined solely to the simplicity of the differences between rich and poor, and class, as you seem to think. In fact religion is at the heart of much of it. People do indeed need to wake up and stay awake.
Naomi - // People do indeed need to wake up and stay awake. //

Use of phrases like that does appear to infer that you must be 'awake' in order to judge the status of those you need not to be 'awake'.

So how is the 'wakefulness' visited on you and not others, like, in your view, most obviously - me?
andy-hughes, Ask Allen. It’s his expression. I’m just agreeing with him.
Naomi - I am asking you.

If you agree with the expression, then you must feel you know what it means, so I am interested to find out if you feel you are included in the selected 'awake' people - or not.
andy-hughes, I'm awake.
Must be a slow day on the journalism front.
Naomi - //andy-hughes, I'm awake. //

Me too, the difference between us is, you think I'm not, and I don't care if you are, or not.
jackdaw - //Must be a slow day on the journalism front. //

Are you familiar with the term 'multi-tasking'?
I would not consider posting tripe ad nauseam on a social website as 'tasking'.
andy-hughes, the thread isn't about you.
A-H; //but I am not, for instance, a Muslim whose religion has passed down through thousands of years,//

Thousands of years?
