I think The reason for covering, in places of worship at least, is that a woman's hair exposed, shows more her feminine charms to men, which can distract them from the purpose of the religious service.
This doesn't apply to Islam, of course, because men and women don't pray together.

Wow - two seeping statements in one post - first of all you presume to speak for a faith which by your own admission you do not adhere to, and then you presume to speak on behalf of a gender of which you are not a member.
The first - I suggest you are probably not qualified to make such a sweeping generalisation, and the second, I state that you absolutely are not qualified to make such a sweeping generalisation.
