Galloway is on planet Galloway. A complete irrelevance to anything sensible. I hope Mr McGuinness's death will spur the politicians on to agreement in the current difficult circumstances. In the end he was a major figure in the peace process and his death is a sad event. He proved that people can change for the better.
"...by the unthinking and shortsighted voices of reaction."
I don't mind you disagreeing with my opinion, allen, but please don't suggest I'm "unthinking". It's precisely because I have thought about the matter that I've reached the conclusion I have. I've not acted irrationally or in a reactionary manner. I don't think the facts are in dispute and I've explained my reasoning. It's just the conclusions we arrive at that differ.
History is written and rewritten and updated by the winning side. His history has been rewritten to up his peace making and down play his murders.
Perhaps the memorial program should start with an honest look at all the death and carnage he instigated, interviews with people effected. Show him in his true colours. Does it matter why he did what he did? NO. There is no excuse for murdering innocent people (and CHILDREN).
Then when nearing the end show him having his apitheny. 'Oh no we're losing. Shall I die for what I believe or save my skin and broker peace?'
Once peace had been agreed him and all the other terrorists should have been put out to pasture with a new beginning of less violent people.
No Islay. Let's not say alleged. That is a modern excuse and appeasing attitude.
He directly murdered people. He directly instigated murders and organised others to murder. He got away with it because he "became a changed man" and got himself in at the top of the food chain.
I didnt think for long over - "do you want to die for Irish Freedom or go on living" - to reach the decision - go on living please
so short you may call me unthinking if you wish
McG did either ( die for Irish Freedom ) so we are kinda united on that one
as for the quaint idea that Jimmy S didnt stand trial and can still be guilty of offences - well no strictly speaking he cant be...
- but hell this is a normal day on AB -
nope Nigh
we are both using words with different meanings
in the same conversation
Jimmy S could still look 'guilty' if he ate too many cream cakes or whatever but unfortunately as a result of innocent until proven guilty he was still as innocent as the day he was born when it comes to crimes
yeah yeah who am I to judge ? the jury is still out on that one etc unless we agree on what the words mean it is difficult to have a meaningful conversation ( as usual on AB )
