There hasn't been much discussion about the Rohingya problem and Aung San Suu Kyi's continual silence. I think she should hand back her Nobel Peace Prize.

It was said on Radio 4 last week, that when she interviewed by one of the BBC's resident Muslim reporters, at the end of the interview, she was heard to say that "nobody told me that I was going to have to be interviewed by a Muslim"

YMB....she is fiddling while Rome burns. She has remained strangely silent, up until a few days ago.

She wasn't awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1991 for not standing up to ethnic cleansing.....she should be ashamed of herself.

Mikey, it was on Hard Talk when Zainab Badawi interviewed her and Miss Aung San Kuu Chi was overheard saying that comment.

I listened to most of her speech the other morning and she said nothing at all of any substance imo.

Also, imo, I think she's got to be careful about what she says when she's still surrounded by the army.

All that effort by thousands of people, and governments, to get her released, the jubilation at her 'enthronment' and, guess what, a politician lets you down. Who would have thought it.

Thanks Alba. But for someone who couldn't shut up for years, now she is a position of authority, she is strangely silent about what is in effect, an attempt at genocide at worst, and definite ethnic cleansing at best.

Her position is a bit tenuous as it is the military who control Burma and she cannot afford to say anything against what the army has instigated.

I really didn't like her mentioning the verification of the refugees in Bangladesh, Bangladesh has enough problems of its own.

She has been quoted to say that she did not choose to be thrown in the limelight and did not want the NP.

If that's the case , perhaps she should have made her feelings public , before all that effort was being made on her behalf .

However , it's more than likely that it's the army is dictating what she says and her apparent lack of concern

Danny...so what would happen if she did speak out ?

Would the Military start bombing and killing totally innocent people, driving them in their 100,000's into safety in Bangladesh.....well, they are doing that now, so what does she have to lose ?

It seemed to me that when she was 'stuttering' during her speech some of the sentences were sticking in her throat.
(stuttering isn't the correct word, but it'll have to do)

Now that she's invited the friends of Myanmar and the UN to the Country, they will take her up on that invitation?

The UN Cheif, Antonio Gutteres thinks that she has it already in her power to reverse Myanmar situation.

She should get off the fence.

Nobody doubts about the bravery that she has shown all these years, but now is not the time for a suspicious silence on her part.

She may well still be under some form of house arrest for all we know.

What is being done to the Rohingya is appalling. Her silence has nothing to do with fearing house arrest .....she is being damned by her lack of action.
