"The National Anthem must be played prior to every NFL game, and all players must be on the sideline for the National Anthem.
During the National Anthem, players on the field and bench area should stand at attention, face the flag, hold helmets in their left hand, and refrain from talking."
The anthem MUST be played but players SHOULD stand, not MUST stand.

As Jim said, kneeling was actually arrived at as a respectful compromise between a person who wanted to sit during the anthem as a peaceful protest against police brutality, and someone who felt the anthem should be acknowledged. It was a product of dialogue between the two sides which has since become widespread.
Honestly if this isn't to be allowed then it is difficult to understand what kind of protest *is* supposed to be acceptable in a free society. Patriotism should not be an obligation, and I think the USA has a weird and culty attitude towards it. I would not like to see it replicated in Britain.

I realise it's the duty of every loyal Scotsman to seek out cheap, or preferably free, alcohol but I think, Corby, you should stop being so boorish and have more respect for the environs and people you have chosen to surround yourself with.
Personally, I wouldn't be seen dead in a mosque but I'd warrant you wouldn't wear your boots in one. And your little lefty friends wouldn't think it such a wheeze if you did.

Another ploy has been tried, a couple of weeks back,' The Pittsburgh Steelers stayed out of the stadium until “The Star-Spangled Banner” was over—well, except for Alejandro Villanueva, the West Point graduate who was an Army Ranger for three tours in Afghanistan; he stood on the field by himself. But the Steelers gesture seems like a “cat ate my homework” ploy. “Oh, sorry, we didn’t get here in time for the national anthem.” I’m calling unsportsmanlike conduct on that one. You can’t avoid taking a knee by not making your knee available.'
Khandro, if you're going to copy and paste wholesale from another website rather than write your own thoughts, you might at least say you're doing it and perhaps even provide a link ...
