And you are forever putting America/Americans down.//
yeah Mikey, be told!
( and yeah in case anyone has noticed the fact that one person Kval has done it does NOT validate the practice - but what the hell this is AB.)
I have to say I thought the koranic schools were trying to pass themselves off as home schooling and so escape regulation ( in the UK) - these are the places where they beat the crap out of the kids if they dont memorise the koran goot, or quickly enough

Whether or not these kids were homeschooled or not is neither here nor there.. the fact remains this allowed them to largely go off radar and the non existent monitoring empowered the parent's abuse / neglect. Had they been in main stream education then this whole sorry business would not,in all probability, have occurred. A sad indictment of the times that any persons who noticed anything untoward did not bring it to the attention of the appropriate authorities. Perhaps a more structured and answerable method of home schooling ought to be considered.
Anyone ever read 'A Child Called It'? The police officer who dealt with the case said it's the most harrowing cases of child abuse.
That child went to school. Concerns were raised but abusers tend to be good liars! Look at the baby P case and how the mother managed to convince social workers that everything was fine.

Ummm is correct. We had a case at school about 30 years ago where a young boy would come to school clad in thin, soiled clothing in all weathers. No breakfast. The staff, both teaching and ancillary, kept spare clothing for him at school. The kitchen would feed him for nothing if he didn't have any dinner money. The social worker assigned to his case concluded that they were a close-knit, loving family (members of the Salvation Army) and declined to intervene.
Given what has happened to the American kids, its looking very plain why the Parents chose this home-schooling in the first place. It wasn't to give them a wonderful education, that's for sure.
