"While the practice of employing grid girls has been a staple of Formula 1 grands prix for decades, we feel this custom does not resonate with our brand values and clearly is at odds with modern day societal norms," Bratches added.

Do you agree or not , with the move ?

Should the ban be extended to other Motor Sports formulas ?

Yes, sack them & put them on the dole.
spath - // Grid girls arn't role models. Kim K is.//

I disagree.

An individual becomes a 'role model' only when the media want to use the term to deride them for not measuring up to their media-decided 'role model' level.

I have made this point before, but it bears repeating - someone like Kim Kardashian is set up, with absolutely not agreement or input from her, as a 'role model', simply so the media can point and sneer at her for NOT being the 'role model' that they created her to be.

But when the media have a genuine role model to show as an example - Amy Winehouse - they simply hoot and chortle as they publicly dissect every single last moment of her tragic end.

Role models are a nonsense, they are a media construct, and should be roundly ignored as such.
TWR - // Yes, sack them & put them on the dole. //

I think it is an acknowledged fact that next to none of the 'podium girls' perform that task as their sole means of earning income, so the notion that stopping it will make them all unemployed tomorrow is not really going to fly.
SOB. It was the only thing worth watching when F1 is on the TV. Does it mean they'll be getting rid of cheer leaders on American football?
Andy, It does not bother me that these Lasses are making a living & good luck to them, It's the prats that's kicking off & making a Stupid Fuss over someone trying to make a living.
melv - // Does it mean they'll be getting rid of cheer leaders on American football? //

I think it will happen, but not for a few generations yet - America has far more support in this area simply on a per capita basis, so cultural change will take a lot longer I think.

I don't believe anyone is making a fuss about anyone trying to make a living.

This issue is about society's attitudes towards women in 2018, and whether it is still a proper reflection of the way men view women that some women are paraded around so that men can leer at them.

Formula One's supremos think it is not - some disagree, but it's not an argument about anyone's right to employment.
//Personally, I think any and all women are worth more respect than that.//

all women, Andy?
mushroom - // //Personally, I think any and all women are worth more respect than that.//

all women, Andy? //

Hang on, let me think about that for less time than it takes to blink ...

Yes, all women.
What does that even mean, mushroom?
//Yes, all women. //

ok, here's a report from 2014 on one Joanna Dennehy. she has something of a special talent with a kitchen knife.

what part of her talent, or her attitude to other human beings, is there to be respected in this person?

I think you are deliberately looking for an argument where none exists.

You know as well as I do that there are individuals in this world who are criminals with no apparent redeeming qualities, but simply plucking an example out of the air does not in any way negate the point I have made, and I think you know that perfectly well.

You have alluded to Ms. Dennehy - I'll see your Ms. Dennehy, and I'll raise you a Mother Theresa ...

Shall we stop that stupidity right now?

The vast majority of the extreme feminists who are shouting against this type of thing are not exactly glamorous are they?. Just a thought.
Would that be relevant, even if it was true?

Any evidence for the flimsy cliché you have just popped into the discussion?
The sports that need scantily clad women to promote them are usually dull, dull, dull. F1..dull, darts..dull, American football dull, cycling dull.
//not exactly glamorous //

that really is for the beholder to decide - if that ain't a cliché itself...
