no idea, I imagine it's deemed racist to question this barbarism. Just another step on the way to Britainistan.
Probably because it is difficult to prove.Nothing to do with racism.
How is it difficult to prove?
They need to know who has carried it out first. I would also have the parents arrested if it was a child.
It is a very difficult, secretive issue.

'Cultural issues' seem to hold sway over 'Law' and that needs to be addressed.

Many of these poor girls seem to be mutilated on trips overseas which is difficult, although not impossible, to prevent. Education seems to be the key here.
Where cases occur in UK, they need to be prosecuted to the fullextent of the law.
// “Religious, social or cultural reasons are sometimes given as justification for FGM. //

Not sometimes ..... always!

It's that sort of damaging political correctness that for fear of offending allows this horrendous practice to remain under the radar.

Most mutilation is carried out abroad, but not all. However, it is all done in secret and kept secret which makes it difficult for the law to act. There was one case of a doctor here charged with performing FGM but it transpired that he was attempting to repair the damage done to the patient as well as he could.

Difficult to prove????????

If a parent took their child to be examined for some reason, and the child was covered in bruises the authorities would soon be informed and the parents questioned or worse.
Jack, if you read the article in my link you will see how difficult this is,
AOG, That is an entirely different matter,Do you think that a parent takes a child who has been subjected to FMG to a GP?
The parent is unlikely to take their child to be examined... however, if they have these statistics and know they are mostly children- it shouldn't matter which country it was carried out in, the parents still have responsibility, so that would be a start.
aog, //If a parent took their child to be examined for some reason//

The parents who condone this don't usually take their little girls to be examined by western doctors which is why it's rarely discovered.
Children won't be examinedin that way anyway, unless there is an essential and genuine reason for it.
Every case of FGM has to be reported when it is discovered - this includes women who underwent the procedure many years ago long before they came to the UK.
Nobody can be prosecuted in these cases but I fully agree that prosecutions must be bought against those responsible for the mutilation of British girls whether it occurred in the UK or whilst they were abroad for a 'holiday'.
In the latter cases the parents or legal guardians should be prosecuted; in the former everyone involved should be.

The problem is so serious that draconian measures need to be taken.

Female children from that culture who are taken abroad should perhaps be examined both before going and also when arriving back.

Pixie, //it shouldn't matter which country it was carried out in, the parents still have responsibility, so that would be a start.//

That means changing a whole ethos – and I can’t see that happening in the near future.
No, aog! You can't abuse little girls on the off-chance that somebody else has too!
It needs to though, Naomi. Making parents responsible for their children's welfare can't be anything new in law?
It is simp,e from my point of view.

If the name of the person who did it is not given over then the parents should be prosecuted as aiding and abetting or accomplice or something.

A heavy sentence may well loosen tounges and over time stop the practice. If they take them out of the country then that is even more a parent prosecution.
Exactly.... even claiming they didn't know what was happening must still amount to neglect at the very least.
