I took my nephew age 5 on a flight..only short one..when the safety talk was being given at the point where the crew said...in the event of emergency put head between knees etc...he shouted out very loudly...AND KISS YOUR BUM GOODBYE ! Well he had the whole flight laughing the whole time with his ways...

The article says the child has a disability. The airline would be getting on very dodgy ground if they offloaded him due to his disability and would probably be in line for a lawsuit

If I was on that plane I'd have lost it after about 20 mins of that! They'd have had to sedate me! Why do they not pressure the mother into sorting it?

OMG. What an awful ordeal that must have been.

It is entirely possible this child has some sort of disability (as alluded to). I had the honour of co-parenting a severely autistic boy for 9 years. His meltdowns and tantrums were something to behold. HOWEVER, the fact that his mother does absolutely nothing other than offer mere platitudes is the most shocking thing. I certainly couldnt have stood that and I would most certainly have used any amount of bribery, cajoling, remonstration, or my quite well known "evil stare with the pointy finger" to make the little *** sit down and shut up.

what I cannot comprehend is that the parents must also be getting irritated. Even if they are selfish and do not care about the ordeal they are inflicting on the other passengers, surely the kid is annoying them too! If it was mine I'd deal with it, mostly for my own sanity. Ask the crew to strap him in gaffer tape his trap.

Zebo - I dare you to suggest to the paramilitary parenting force (aka mumsnet) that kids just should not be forced onto planes for anything as trivial as holidays and that local holidays should do until they reach (at least) 11yo.

I think if the child had been on my flight OH would have gone up to the child and told him 'No screaming allowed in here. Can't you read the sign?' It usually works. If it didn't he might have asked for some gaffer tape.

poor parents - they have this 24 h a day and had it for 8 or so years..... I feel sorrier for them than the passengers who I agree had not paid for this extra curricular activity but got an insight into how saintly these parents are ....
