Or is it simply a handy, pejorative term to label someone when the argument is being lost, what does it mean, and where would you apply it if at all?

oh so its a self defence article.......
Actually to be fair I do think that that word, among loads of others, is used by people to shut down discussion and sometimes to virtue signal. "If you don't agree with me you must be racist; if you don't fancy me you must be gay/frigid; if you don't agree with my stance on animal care you must be an abuser and so on......its a species of logical fallacy though and not an indication that there is no such thing as racism.
No. Not all of us. Not by a long chalk.

However, some people are. One of the fascinating things about where we are now, is that the term racist (and sexist, homophobic etc) have become the first stop in any argument. Because these terms are bandied about so casually, it means that those who are bigots are able to claim they’re not.

It’s a lose/lose situation.

Sidebar - for many people of my generation, watching Morrissey turn into our collective dads is extremely depressing.

It’s like the first time you saw THAT picture of Alex James.
I haven't seen you recently, SP. Have you heard the news about Mikey?
Morrisey again eh!

I’ve not been here for a while. Kinda dread to ask, but what’s happened to mikey?
I’ve just done a search.

I’m speechless.

I don’t want to sidetrack this thread...so I’m going to mail the Ed.

Thanks v_e. I’ve been away so long, I wouldn’t have known. So very sad.
This is a classic from the daffodil man:
“Racism is at its most abhorrent in relation to eating animals. If you eat animals, isn’t it a display of hatred for a certain species? And what gives you the right to eat another species or race? Would you eat people from Sri Lanka?”

Complete and utter fruitcake.
I'm not a fan of labelling people, I would happily tell someone if a remark they made was racist but without knowing them well I couldn't and wouldn't judge them beyond that.
daffodil man?
Morrisey. Daffodils. No?

Yes.

For some reason, Morrissey has become the go to guy for articles about race.

Next week, the Pet Shop Boys discuss urban regeneration projects in former Yugoslavia.
And Boy George is to do a lecture tour on the effects of palm oil plantations on the Orang Utang.
Morrissey was gladioli not daffodils
Thought it might be a clever way of saying he loves the sound of his own voice.
Both GG.
You mean Morrissey is really Dame Edna?
Daffs as well goodgoalie.
“Everyone grows out of their Morrissey phase … except Morrissey.”

Trying to belittle the messenger with insulting names when bereft of an intelligent answer is really what the OP is about, and Zacs, you fit the profile well.
