Was it necessary to murder this magnificent animal because some brainless pillock entered his enclosure? Natural selection at work if you asked me. Why do we take out human mistakes on innocent animals? Fuming.

jno I saw this story earlier this week. I've actually seen the video of the chap walking into the lion enclosure. Thing is - just because you've raised a lion from a cub, doesn't mean that the lion has the cognitive reasoning to think, "Oh, that grey-haired bloke over there, he's a mate of mine...not dinner." No, the whole thing about wild animals is that they're...

I wholeheartedly agree with you.
Interestingly, a comment is made that the injured man is, quote "... no fool around lions ..." although the evidence of what happened rather points to the opposite conclusion.
Horrible.
//some brainless pillock entered his enclosure? Natural selection at work if you asked me.//
If you ask me as well.
I could understand it if the man was mentally ill (plenty of cases of schitz patients thinking that they are Daniel going in to the lions den etc) but this man knew the dangers. As you say 3T, brainless pillock!
I'm not going to read that link otherwise I'll be fuming as well.

I'm angry, too. If they can be on the spot with rifles - then they can be on the spot with dart-guns to knock the animal out.
Appalling.

or better still why aren't they stopping these morons going into the enclosure? Even those who think they are "no fool" around Lions.

Dart guns take time to work during which time the animal can do more harm.
Yes, shocking, and very sad. They are, as the OP says, magnificent animals.
O.K we all agree, that he is, was, a brainless pillock.

The scenario: what do you do when you see a "brainless pillock" being mauled by a lion and a gun is available. yes the lion is a beautiful creature, majestic and all that jazz BUT, in that situation do you save the lion or the" brainless pillock?"

Natural instinct in my opinion would be to shoot the lion.

I may be wrong.
Difficult one, Sqad....I just couldn't shoot the lion in these circumstances......
I may be wrong too.....x
Some folk do give the impression that they find life very much like a Disney movie, day to day.

It was never a cub held up to the rising sun, it couldn't speak English and there was no soundtrack album.

did anyone read the story? He wasn't a brainless pillock. He'd raised the lion from a cub and had never had trouble with it before.

easy one squad, shoot the pillock. In all seriousness I'd use a tranq.

No, the whole thing about wild animals is that they're wild animals. A lion is a lion is a lion. If you walk into its enclosure, technically, you're 'upright hors d'oeuvres'.

The lion should NOT have been killed.

jno: "He wasn't a brainless pillock. He'd raised the lion from a cub and had never had trouble with it before. " - So he was familiar, so what did he think he was immune? like I said Brainless pillock.
I doubt the keeper(s) with the rifles feel good about this but doubt they had much choice under the circumstances.

Often those who are most conversant with danger become the most cavalier about it, the Lion has paid for his slip shod attitude.
