City hall have given the green light to a crowdfunded blimp depicting an angry Donald Trump throwing a temper tantrum in a nappy, meaning it will be flying over Parliament Square on the day of his visit.

Do you think this is a valid piece of satire or do you think this should have been disallowed so as not to annoy the President?

I can see why people might disagree with the ballon but I find it very hard to understand why people feel "ashamed" over this. There are a few things about the UK which make me feel ashamed, but poking fun at the most powerful man in the world for his behaviour is not one of them.

If this looks like "spite" or "vitriol" to you... I think with all due respect that maybe your definition of those words is a little bit twee. :)
It is a tad childish. I can't stand the man though. Just watching him talk makes me cringe.

Answerbank: The left are easily triggered snowflakes who hate freedom of expression.

Also Answerbank: The vicious, nasty left are putting a big baby Trump balloon in the sky!! I am ASHAMED to be British I would SHOOT IT DOWN if I could why do they have to be so utterly horrible?
Krom, //I can see why people might disagree with the ballon//

Why do you think they disagree?

//Twee//

As opposed to what? An obligation to endorse whatever crass notions the ‘untwee’ come up with?

I have no problem with people making fun of political figures but I do have a problem with those who disgrace this country. We see on here grown people whooping with delight at the prospect of protestors mooning at the president. What is that all about? It says nothing about him and will have no effect upon him whatsoever – he’s not going to resign because a bunch of idiots in a foreign land choose to disgrace themselves - but it speaks volumes about those who think it’s clever to do that. Protest by all means at policy with which you disagree, but policy is secondary – or in many cases non-existent - in this fiasco. This crusade is about a man, it’s personal, it’s spiteful, and it has been since the day he stood for election. The whole world will be watching this pantomime of impropriety, and the whole world will assume that this is the voice of the people of Britain - but it isn’t. This moronic performance might represent you, the mooners, and the people too engrossed in their malicious purpose to recognise the irony in flying a petulant baby balloon - but it certainly does not represent me.
Well put Naomi.
Disgrace. Pantomime. Spiteful. Moronic. Malicious. Petulant. All words which can be applied to Trump and his presidency.
ZM, I agree, but he is still POTUS and that office deserves a little respect.
crass and childish...
Respect is earned. He’s done very little to gain any, as far as I can see. Blindly applying respect to an office rather than the actions of the incumbent officER is strangely naive.
Respect isn't one of those things handed to the winner of the US election in the big bag of presidential stuff.

It needs to be earned then held on to.
Thank you danny.
I think it's a good thing. Shows the liberal left up for what they are all there for the World to see. I suspect the majority of the World will hold the liberal left as the laughing stock rather than Trump whom most dont care about one way or another anyway.

So go do it, show the world what the UK has become.
Aw, somebody's sulking now.

//Why do you think they disagree? //

I can understand, for example, why someone might feel the tone is wrong. Or that we ought to be more subdued given that our trading relationship with the US is going to be very significant for us post-Brexit. I don't necessarily agree but I can understand it.

//I have no problem with people making fun of political figures //

Well, you clearly do - because here's a political figure being mocked for his behaviour and you have a massive problem with it. It's not just "policy" that requires mockery or protest - it's also the behaviour of those in power and the way in which they lead.

//This crusade is about a man, it’s personal, it’s spiteful, and it has been since the day he stood for election.//

Naomi, the personality and leadership skills of the President as a person have serious implications for the rest of us because the President is the most powerful person in the world. Trump as a person was being left pretty well alone until he put himself forward as a presidential candidate - then, quite rightly, he started getting this kind of attention. Just like Ted Cruz did. Just like Jeb Bush did. Just like Hilary Clinton did. Just like Theresa May does. Just like Jeremy Corbyn does. He's not some poor victim, he's an extremely powerful man whose temperament and inability to lead are having real effects on the world. He chose this, he chose to go into politics. If he can't take it, he shouldn't be there.
Kromo, He will be here under the auspices of HM the Queen, don't you think that this kind of behaviour might be embarrassing to her?
Question Author
Not unless she's out there mooning him herself, no.
Krom, //Well, you clearly do [have a problem with politicians being mocked]- because here's a political figure being mocked for his behaviour and you have a massive problem with it.//

You seem to have a problem with comprehension, Krom. Read what I said.

//If he can't take it, he shouldn't be there.//

But he very clearly can take it.....
