Yes I know Trump said it, but please don't turn this into yet another anti-Trump thread, please address it on the fact that if one is a man (no matter of what nationality) one can be deemed guilty until proven innocent.

No, he was lying about never having had a drinking problem as a youth. More than enough of his friends and former schoolmates have come out to attest to that, if the yearbook (with all its references to drinking games, which Kavanaugh also lied about more than once) didn't give it away.
Again, over-drinking in itself has little to say about the allegations of sexual assault, but it calls into question his integrity and honesty today, and his service as Justice on the Supreme Court can be ruled out based on that alone.

In order:
1. Spicerack, the problem is lying about it having sworn to tell the truth. I couldn't give two figs about his drinking habits otherwise. Same with Obama, who never lied about it either. No hypocrisy there. Maybe try to understand the point I'm making for a change.
2. Naomi -- convenient, perhaps, but hardly surprising. When do you expect stories like this to come out, except at a time when someone is being put under the highest levels of scrutiny by applying, or being nominated for, such an important position?
3. AuntLydia -- maybe she was terrified and ashamed. Hardly unheard-of for people to keep this sort of thing to themselves, especially if, as is the case here, she probably should not have been at the party in the first place. As a matter of fact, she first let on about the alleged incident in 2012. I don't see how the length of time in itself has anything to say about whether the alleged assault happened or not.

AuntLydia, I mean this politely....how old are you? I am assuming this happened in the 80's? I don't know much about what it was like in the US, but here in the UK, I am not sure that pastoral care in schools was much to write home about and there was definitely the attitude that the girl must have asked for it and it was best to hush it up so the girl didn't get a reputation. Today, one would hope, the attitude of schools has changed......
Its intersting that Trump says that "that someone like his Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh can be an 'exemplary person for 30 years' and have their reputation ruined by allegations of sexual misconduct." but he's actually 53.....so has he only been exemplary since his 20's?

Naomi, I pointed out that the "whisper" was first made in 2012, and then again a few years later, long before Kavanaugh ever came up for SC nomination, let alone Trump being president.
The remaining allegations have somewhat of a bandwagon feel, to be sure, but even then we have seen how quickly silence people bought through fear can fall away once one victim finally speaks out. Hardly out of the ordinary, then, for this to happen about Kavanaugh, if indeed Blasey Ford's allegation is true.
There is no doubt a political agenda slapped on top of the human story, and that drags Democrats down with it to an extent, but the truly shameful part of this story is the attempt to smear, insult and destroy Ford's character, that now has gone all the way to the top. All the while there was a simple, natural, and responsible course of action for Kavanaugh and the Republicans to follow, namely (1) not lie about his past drinking habits, while behaving sensibly in front of the Senate and the nation, and (2) offer up another candidate.

The irony here is that it is exactly the men who seek -- and obtain -- positions power who are, by nature, most likely* to be sexual predators, so it also follows that they are more likely to be accused of it. No wonder sexual assault allegations are levelled most often against the powerful. There may be an agenda, but they are also the sort of people in the prime position to be abusive in the first place.
*Though not necessarily very likely; I would like to think that no matter their position in society the overwhelming majority of people are decent and respectful of all.

// please don't turn this into yet another anti-Trump thread,//
AOG is banging his drum but is officially asking us proles not to ( bang our own drums) some hope
what was the charge ? what was the court - answer no charge and no court
and it was nt a case - so throw out all the words like innocent, guilty and so on
so what was it ? hearing to determine fitness for office....
and you dont need a convicted criminal charge to be found unfit to serve
Young men twaddle - president Trump thinking of his own arriss I suppose ( again )
AOG old fella - instead of agonising and asking why oh why
can you think about the things you post ?

Jim, //I pointed out that the "whisper" was first made in 2012, and then again a few years later//
Why didn't she pursue it at that time then?
Woofgang, // I agree that this may have a political aspect but that still doesn't mean that it didn't happen. //
It doesn't mean it did either. As for a political agenda, I suspect there's no 'may' about it.

// 30 years after the alleged offence occurred and not a whisper until now. //
Hi Nigh - were you anti the saville inquiries ? I really cant remember and cant bear wading thro ALL you brilliant one liners
whether or not you were - I am afraid historical allegations have become an issue. I dont think he should be a supreme court justice and I dont mind how they get him out ( or er not in) ( or on)
( meanwhile in Lundy - three Law Lords aka Supreme court judges have just been appointed. They just said - these three are going to act up)
