It looks like they've finally had enough of her mishandling of the Brexit negotiations.

To answer the OP - I think May will survive the week (and even the winter) as Tory MPs take a deep breath and jib at the 'Turkeys Voting for Christmas' scenario of triggering a General Election - no viable alternative exists that could command a majority in the Party, let alone the House. To answer the "Why does Europe have the whip hand?" comments, it has always...

Why do you think May would lose a vote of confidence? Most MPs would prefer get as the least bad option. The Torys are potentially fatally split over this. She is stuck in the middle, but in a rocky boat the middle is not a bad place to be. I’m struggling to thing how in such a situation bringing in someone from either a more extreme position either way would help.
I'm not sure whether she would lose that vote or not. Maybe the risk for her will make her change her mind about extending the transition period.Who knows what might happen.
I believe Raab has been on TV this morning saying the extension would be 3 months.
//The Remainers would be delighted if May were to lose a leadership re-election.//
Really? Well here's one that would be glad to see her go.
who will replace her if she goes, and doesn't this send out the wrong message that the Tories are totally split.
That's not the 'wrong' message, it's the 'true' message!
Agree Quizmonster, think the tories are totally split and no amount of glue will put them back together again. Bit like Humpty Dumpty!
Bit like the labour party too so nothing to be glee about.

Personally I think May should go. She has been unduly infuelced by liberal minded remainer civil servants rather than listen to her voters. She is, in my opinion, the worst Con PM ever and indeed far worse than many labour ones!

Her going would not derail Brexit, much as many of you would like that to happen. It may well pull it on track when the EU realize their stooge May is gone and the most likely option is the UK walking - along with its cash.
I still don't think Brexiteers "get it". May isn't doing very well at the negotiating table because no-one in the UK can do well there, not because she personally is incompetent.
No, her incompetence is just a bonus for them.
Jim, it is a combination of May being weak and the EU being obdurate.
We are not talking about of No Confidence in HM government, this will be an in-house job in the Tory party. Remember IDS in 2003?
May goes? Replacement? Effect on brexit? Laughing stock of europe, .
If we are to get rid of her the sooner than later would be the wisest thing to do.
danny, it is not the EU's job to be anything but obdurate. They are protecting their interests, just as they are supposed to. Providing featherbeds for British politicians is not their concern, and it is useless for Brits to wail about Europeans being mean. What do they think "negotiating" means?

(Yes, yes, I know. Cherrypicking. Having their cake and eating it.)
She has lost, inter alios, her chief negotiator and her Foreign Secretary through her intrangence. She must go, and go now.
Jack. Who will be her successor ?
I don’t know but I hope they aren’t intrangent.
//Jack. Who will be her successor ?\\

I don't know and I don't care. DD, BJ, even JRM, anyone but May.
jackdaw, both men were supremely incompetent.

I still remember Davis saying he'd swiftly arrange a UK-German trade deal, apparently unaware that EU members can't negotiate their own deals. This from the man in charge of Brexit negotiations. His ignorance was fathomless, and has contributed greatly to the delays in preparing for Brexit. But the only thing you can blame May for is appointing him in the first place.
