that's how the headline reads - but it's not how it was reported on TV last night, nor indeed is it said in the text of the article. The police are investigating not the refusal, but threats made after the event. and the driver wasn't dismissed for refusing to transport poppies, but for falsifying his job card.

Just for the record. I did not mention or allude to any "religious" connotation. The 12.06 post was the first to do so. My use of the word "persuasion" could have suggested perhaps one of our gender confused drivers, or a fully paid up member of a well known para military organisation, in fact any other group that has an axe to grind with our armed forces veterans. Perhaps a student union spokesman earning a bit of pin money. However I note that the person is now protected by the data protection act according to the taxi firm statement. Shame that. Bet if the driver had been named say......Robinson the name would be out ,and the twittersphere would be lit up with strongly worded messages.
