Put simply it appears that we're back where we started, only now lacking the ability to influence decisions made by the EU whilst being governed by and beholden to that bloc. It would have been better just to abandon the whole devisive farce, putting it down to bad dream.

I can't say I know anyone who thinks this is a good deal either, which is why I too am surprised by the report. However, I do think there's one truth that's unpalatable for the hardline Brexiteers on AB: that many Leave voters were not nearly so ideologically committed to Brexit as you lot are, and that they would gladly accept a poor man's version of it rather than chase shadows. For that matter, I may myself have to get used to the idea that overturning Brexit altogether is probably impossible.
Incidentally, ymb, I appreciate that "polls" is somewhat of a dirty word around here, but still, they are they best we have to meaningfully track what people think, and they tend to paint a pretty consistent picture.
Here, for example, is the Express finding itself surprised by the polling figures:

Since the Express is about the most committed pro-Brexit paper, I figure it's the best source to use in the circumstances.

VE,
I don’t think Jim influenced the Conservative Government, so any triumph (it doesn’t look like one) is solely down to May and Co., and the Brixiters who were abscent at their posts (Gove, Johnson, Rees Mogg) to watch this happen.
It is a neat trick to pass on blame to the people who were not involved, for the end result.

""EU leaders have wasted little time in gloating over “the worst deal in history” negotiated by Theresa May, with French president Emmanuel Macron gloating he can blackmail Britain into surrendering its fishing waters or force it into the humiliating “backstop”. ""
Brussels negotiators have been keen to maintain or duplicate this Common Fisheries Policy (CFP) beyond Brexit Day in March 2019, despite Theresa May’s repeated assurances that she will restore Britain’s status as an “independent coastal state” — and May’s withdrawal agreement could well allow the bloc to do so.
Firstly, it stipulates that the CFP will remain in force in Britain throughout the so-called “transition” period to the end of 2020, in which the country will effectively remain an EU member but without its current representation in the EU’s institutions.
Secondly, it provides for the transition to be extended for a further two years if a new relationship is not finalised during it, or for the United Kingdom to enter into so-called “backstop” arrangements with the EU — which it could not leave without the EU’s permission, and which would see it subject to vast swathes of EU rules and regulations and entered into a “single customs territory” in which the bloc would wield the whip hand.""

I’ve written to my MP today.
I don’t suppose it’ll make a blind bit of difference, but having looked on his website, I just had to do it.
A constituency with a very strong leave vote, he thinks it is the best deal we can get, and one he can live with.
I wonder how many of his constituents can live with it too.
