I am exasperated daily by the leave argument that the referendum result was it and no one can change their mind. If that were the case we would only ever have one general election. It is clear that the balance of public opinion has changed towards remaining ing the EU. Common sense has returned and we shall be the better for it.

OK. But what exactly are we going to do with this sovereignty? The USA has made it pretty clear that they'd expect us to lower our (currently very high) food safety standards if we want a trade deal - and the government has refused to rule out giving US health firms greater access to the NHS in order to get a post-Brexit trade deal. I don't think anyone seriously imagines we'd be in much of a position to refuse.

Does this wonderful 'sovereignty' really mean anything if we're just going to have our laws dictated by Washington rather than Brussels?

I hear a lot of complaining about our current situation, and nothing realistic from hard-leavers about what could realistically replace it.

IF we chose to change our for safety laws (which to be honest I don’t think we would do or do appreciably), we get to chose.

IF we decide to allow greater acces to the NHS, we chose to do it. As long as it is free at point of service and the right price determined by the contract then we get to do so. By the way some NHS services are already contracted out to the private sector.

Is it 'our choice' if we're forced to change our consumer safety or health policy to get a trade deal? Is that really a position of sufficient freedom to make all this worth it?

Because I think this (or something very like it) is what we'd be looking at in a no-deal scenario. In addition to plenty of other bad consequences, of course.

If you do not know the difference between a referendum and a general election perhaps you should not be participating in either. Anyone remember the greedy kid in school that having lost the toss demands best of 3, then having lost that demands best of 5? They never grow out of it you know.

I think it's a sad indication of the position we have put ourselves in. If you're not keen on that,you can expect plenty more in a no-deal scenario.

The general election indeed is not about a single policy: a fact that needs to be explained to those who claimed that because 80-odd% of voters at the last election voted for parties Labour and Tory who backed the referendum result in their manifesto then it means 80% therefore backed “Leave” which is a pretty desperate argument.
As for another referendum, well the PM’s in NI today: the referendum campaign has already started ;-)

Kromo do you know what a democratic vote means or does it have to go your way for you to accept it.

No one has said that folk can't change their mind, but they may get exasperated by those who use that to say we need to hold referendums until the result they wanted wins. Change you mind after we have been out of the EU as long as we have experienced being in and you can make a sensible decision rather than moan at the previous result and wish to overturn the majority decision.

Clearly the attempt to compare against a general election fails immediately as the new government is in power for the allotted time before there is a re-vote.

I've no idea if majority opinion has swayed due to fear stories towards not being a nation worth the title and remaining ruled by the EU elite, but in the event that it has, shame on those pushing the fear scenarios and it would be a destruction of common sense and the worst for our nation.

The UK has a reputation for being stronger than that, not giving up what they know to be right to avoid the necessary change period. I trust this present generation will prove equally resilient and worthy as the previous ones.
