May’S Awful Deal Will Be Approved By Parliament On Friday

In tonights votes, the Beckett Referendum2 option will get approved, because May has instructed Ministers to abstain.
She has scheduled her deal to be resubmitted for voting on Friday.
Faced with an option of a Referendum 2 or May’s deal, Johnson, Rees-Mogg and ERG will all vote through May’s terrible deal.

So May wins?

They were indicative votes. A wish list with no power to achieve anything other than highlight the lack of agreement. So as no consensus the logical thing is to leave everything as it is until we've left.

The freedom for MPs to debate them was as a result of the Oliver Letwin amended motion. But these 8 votes were on options for possible future motions or amendments. For example say Ken Clarke’s customs union idea had actually had more YESs than NOs, it wouldn’t have meant it had “passed” : just that there was an indication that it might command the support of the House.

New ref , general election what ever but do some thing .Just wondering how many new rules and regulation passed through on the so called important brexit days that we missed . or did no other departments do anything either this last 2 odd years .

Yes, correct. It was just a discussion and set of indicative votes on possible future motions. Has no power in itself.

I think there is a way ahead along the lines of Vince Cable’s suggestion I mentioned above, with or without the referendum option: ie amend the Deal to include the Ken Clarke customs union, and put that to a vote next week. That would get round the “substantially dufferences” objection of Mr Spanker. And presumably the DUP would support it.
And if it WAS passed it would be an answer to the EU who say :”Suggest something Parliament supports” In those circumstances they’d likely be open to it.
It doesn’t quite command a majority of MPs at the moment of course and there were quite a few abstentions ...

Not looked deeply at Clarke's custom union since a customs union agrees to impose common external tariffs on goods from countries outside the customs union, and thus screws up proper trade negotiation elsewhere. As a matter of interest, does his suggestion include the 4 impositions as well ?

It involves negotiating a new customs union with the EU, not merely staying in the current one.
