as long as people want to live in London, property prices will remain high. the more fashionable areas (like Islington, Chelsea, etc) will command the highest prices but even in places like Newham a down at heel mid terrace house will now cost you the thick end of half a million, more than 400% more than the asking price just 20 years ago.
