I wouldn't depend on the tabloids to report the truth.... especially when they're on the warpath against someone.

You have an odd choice of 'hero'!

I don't a cherished Tommy Robinson mug.
insert 'own'
royfromus - // You have an odd choice of 'hero'!

Nor do I!

Your point is?

I'll tell you what, let me pre-empt your next post, and mine, and save some time, and another thread diversion -

Yes I used to have a Jimmy Saville mug because I really liked him and found him entertaining.

When, along with the rest of the world, I found out what he was actually like, it went in the bin.

OK?

Shall we get back to the thread now?
AH, // Because he is 'Tommy Robinson', the media are all over it like a rash//

That’s what happens when you’re not famous. ;o)

I don’t know why you snigger every time you mention his ‘journalism’. Other people who have no training and who can’t earn a living from journalism, call themselves ‘journalists’. At least mainstream media is interested in what he has to say.

Oh dear, yet more lies.
AH //'Tommy Robinson' is not famous, much less 'very famous' - his nonsense is hardly on a par with a global megastar recording and performing artist like Elton John.//

I'm sorry, but Tommy Robinson IS very famous, during his travails with the establishment and trumped-up charges culminating in an unfair jail sentence, he was discussed daily on the world's media - coast to coast USA, Australia , where he had huge support, & even in the EU, in fact he was more in the news that Elton John!
Tommy Robinson says he was 'justified in restraining the man from leaving the pool area' whereas witnesses say that Tommy Robinson punched the man bloodying his nose. Tommy Robinson tacitly acknowledges this fact.
Tommy Robinson has now broadcast his poor daughter's statement of events (including her friend/sister Maisie in the tale) for the entire www to see.
He may well be an enraged parent (who wouldn't be) but he just can't help being a little bit Tommy Robinson about it all at the same time.
naomi - // I don’t know why you snigger every time you mention his ‘journalism’. //

Then I am happy to tell you why. He doesn't call himself a journalist, his self-important (no surprise there!) label for his nonsense is that he is a 'citizen journalist' which translates as - any idiot can spout utter tosh into a video camera and stick it on the internet and someone will watch it, so that makes it journalism in the true sense of the word.

// Other people who have no training and who can’t earn a living from journalism, call themselves ‘journalists’. //

I think you are having a pop at me (again!) - but if you remember, or even check back, you will note that I am careful to call myself a 'music journalist' which is something entirely separate from the mainstream media.

Journalists deal with life-changing news and events on a daily basis, what they say informs and educates people and has a vital cultural impact and vital place in the world.

Music journalists talk to pop stars about music, which is an entertainment as fluffy as the clouds above, it has not lasting impact or importance, and it appeals to people who enjoy it, and the majority let it pass by completely unnoticed.

You see, unlike 'Tommy', I have no grand illusions about what I do, or the importance of it in the wider scheme of things.

The major difference between us is that I have a forty-year-plus paid career dong what I do, and I am acknowledged as being very good at it.

I am motivated by the enjoyment of writing, not a desperate need to affirm my importance because I am scared that no-one will notice me or think I matter.

// At least mainstream media is interested in what he has to say. //

The mainstream media are interested if Liz Hurley wears a new bikini - that's not exactly a ringing endorsement!!!

Stop trolling, you're being a pest.
jack - // ... a little bit Tommy Robinson about it all at the same time. //

Admirable restraint there!

If you cut him in half, you'd find 'Tommy Robinson' running through him like a stick of rock!!
If the police had been called out to Tommy Robinson fighting a man over spilling his pint, I could understand the attitude of the police. The were not though, they were called out to investigate the alleged assault of an eight year old child.

The conduct of the officers in the video was woeful. If I was an officer at the scene my priority would have been the welfare of the child not an easy arrested of a professional gobshite.

The filmed segment we see is 'Tommy' being a nasty shouty sweary violent yob insulting the police who are dealing with him with far more courtesy and restraint than he deserves.

That of course is 'newsworthy'.

The possible arrest of the alleged offender was not filmed, so we are unable to compare the approach and methods of the police in that instance, but I am willing to believe that similar restraint and patience was used, even though that event was not deemed important enough to merit filming for 'Tommy's website.
andy, I'm not trolling I'm telling the truth.
AH, // I have a forty-year-plus paid career dong what I do//

Your 40 year paid career was spent sitting at a desk in a BT office. The rest is a hobby that never earned you a living. What’s that term you’re so fond of using with regard to Tommy Robinson, Donald Trump, et al? Oh yes. self-aggrandizement.

Incidentally, you don’t need to tell me what a journalist does - nor what a ‘music journalist’ does… really you don’t. ;o)
He is sniggered at by the self righteous because they thing he is getting his cumuppence for not bowing to their mantra.

Excuse me, it was forty-three years if you don't mind!!!!

The rest is a hobby that never earned you a living.

I think it's a career, the dictionary agrees with me -

career
/kəˈrɪə/
noun
noun: career; plural noun: careers
an occupation undertaken for a significant period of a person's life and with opportunities for progress.

// What’s that term you’re so fond of using with regard to Tommy Robinson, Donald Trump, et al? Oh yes. self-aggrandizement. //

I am simply using the correct term for what I have done, and still do - there is no self-aggrandizement involved, only what you wish to see.

// Incidentally, you don’t need to tell me what a journalist does - nor what a ‘music journalist’ does… really you don’t. ;o) //

Speaking of self-aggrandizement - it's not all about you, there are many other people who may not know the difference - or indeed care - but that is why I put the explanation there, for other people.
What's with the smiley winking faces when you're insulting someone?
YMB - // He is sniggered at by the self righteous because they thing he is getting his cumuppence for not bowing to their mantra. //

I am not at all self-righteous, unlike 'Tommy' who virtually personifies the word - I snigger at him because he is an intelligent man who prefers to be seen as a bumptious loud-mouthed thug, and sniggering is the appropriate response to that sort of behaviour.
AH, //it's not all about you//

I made no such claim. I simply responded to your post which was addressed specifically to me.
I read a report late last night and it said that there were three middle aged men and one of them grabbed his daughter's bottom (one cheek), deliberately, so she said. She came running back to her family upset about it. He took the chap to task, the chap denied it, there's a bit of a ruck which I can understand (not being perfect like some) and who gets arrested? Not the one who committed the far worse crime. If it had happened to my little daughter and he denied I'd have punched him as well. I wonder if this was someone other than Tommy those condemning him would still feel the same.
