Face Masks
It appears that the government has now decided that face masks have some efficacy and are suggesting it would be a condition when lock down ends for workers to wear them and when using Public Transport
Our London Mayor is now saying he will INSIST the public wear them. About 10 days ago his LT workers were crying out for them and he told them,at the time, they were not necessary but gave them gloves instead.

if you are going for evidence based practice the evidence is pretty strong for - try something else as well....
as for someone sniffily saying that there are too many experts on AB - I worked in Porton Down - and all this argy bargy is peanuts if you really want to keep a dangerous pathogen at bay .....
I mean tomus - if someone was going to spray Novichok at you, would really think - oh that silk scarf will tide me over until I can get a haz chem mask from somewhere .....
or would you think o god I am going to DDDDIIIIEEE!

A week or so ago, advice was that the more people with the virus that you are in contact with, the worse the virus will attack you. If you have the virus and wear a mask, does it follow that you will be infecting yourself worse because you will be breathing it in and out? Not sure if I’m explaining what I’m thinking very well
I didn't see that, puzzled. Is that right? I haven't read all the thread yet, but I would imagine it depends on the type of mask. The ones my daughter is using at work are very heavy, and nothing like the ones I have seen on people out and about.
I would also hope, that when more information is found out, it would be publicised, so with something like this, I would expect information and advice to change over time.

There was a suggestion on tv yesterday that a triple thickness fabric face covering may give some additional protection over and above social distancing. It would need to be close fitting capable of being washed at 60 degrees and every time you went out.
I have been online found a mask pattern and modified it with a n ultra fine weave fibre interlining and shaped them to fit closely. The masks are cotton but the lining is denser than the fabric I remember from theatres. They can be boil washed

I posted this link to tests on masks in an earlier thread. It is testing for the flu virus, but I would imagine the results are still relevant.

Thanks, woofgang, interesting, but I am even more confused now. There are lots of references in the link you gave, and having glanced through a few they seem to say that masks do help to some degree. Here some excerpts.
