Daisypotter has nailed it; there’s far too many people who are out for blood, and their frothing indignation won’t be satisfied until Cummings has gone. It won’t serve any purpose in Cummings falling on his sword or being sacked, other than their righteous indignation being satisfied.
Cummings didn’t follow a guideline. A guideline is like me saying to somebody ‘I’d rather you didn’t do that’. He hasn’t broken a rule - it’s the same as the difference between tax avoidance and tax evasion; the former is legal the latter is not - I think this is an easy concept to comprehend, but clearly many are struggling.
