... would like to find some excuse for this second breach of lockdown - after he was well and back at work - and when (presumably) the 'childcare' emergency was no longer valid reason?

23:54 very well put.
//then it will be to calm Public 'outrage'//

That's right though, isn't it? If you are paid by public coffers and your actions outrage enough of the public then you have to go.
Outraged is a strong word. How can you tell how many of the public are outraged? By the newspapers - and ABers - who shout the loudest?
The ones who are "outraged" ALWAYS shout the loudest in my experience.

The rest of us don't care enough to get annoyed.
'Outrage' is the word used in the post I was commenting on.
A useful method of checking public perception is to look at how the public respond to stories.

When this broke, the Daily Mail got over 19,000 comments.

The top rated one was:

One rule for the Gov and one for us. Shocking. They are all at it

It received over 14,000 likes.

When you have people obeying the rules, in order to ensure the safety of others and to help ease the pressure on the NHS and frontline services, it must be galling to have one of the architects of the rules appear to break them.

In these instances, it's understandable that people will denounce the actions...no matter how others may wish them to be quiet.
I think Boris has to man up and get rid of Cummings.
Boris's retort that "at least he wasn't visiting a lover" is just typical of the man.
You can't make a silk purse out of a pigs ear!
// 'Outrage' is the word used in the post I was commenting on.//

er Nick - the outraged commentator, justifiably outraged by such er outrageous overstatement, hadnt read that post
hey but that doesnt disallow outraged comment
this is after all AB in outrage mode!
//you cant make a silk purse out of a sows ear - // someone
yeah but you can still er put things in the ear !

I have finally - thanks Naomi! - got to the bit I understand about this:

Whitehall Farce part deux
starring Dominic Cummings
trousers around his ankle Boris
or is that computer expert Neil?
he doesnt press pling! he goes bonk!
Hallelujah! - classical farce in and out of Downing Street
where its Trousers down and knickers off!

Lock Downing street - but what does on inside?

Act II - rewritten with sylvan and city scenes from Durham!

did he come or did he go? - pay up and find out!

( author all rights PP)
PP, have you come off your medication again?
// A useful method of checking public perception is to look at how the public respond to stories.//
and another good way is to check the yaaarting on AB
and my god can they yaaaart!
// PP, have you come off your medication again?//
foo funny dat!
er no Danny - but I need to! - ter daah ! I will fit that gag in somewhere
Danny, afraid BoJo doesn't have the balls to man up!
I kind of saw valid reasoning for putting his child first but this second trip has certainly added fuel to the fire.

I don't think there is any coming back from this and cabinet ministers can no longer defend him. He needs to take responsibility for his actions and do the right thing.
"A local couple, who did not want to be named" - is this the modern day equivalent to the man on the Clapham omnibus?
Having been in a 'lockdown-dilemma' myself, I have a certain amount of sympathy for Mr Cummings.
However, we talked everything through, rationally, and decided to observe the rules/guidelines.
So, it does leave a nasty taste that the very man who was instrumental in formulating the rules/guidelines regarding CV-19 and travel decided to ignore them when it suited him to do so.

PP, leave me out of your stupid, manic ramblings. How many times do you need to be told?
naomi - // … told? //

Try asking - he's not a four-year-old in your Reception Class!
If he does not lose his job, then the others who were sacked/left for flouting lockdown rules should be reinstated.
