More than 100% of GDP.

When Labour left office in 2010 the National Debt was less than £1 Trillion, so the Tories have managed to double it. Will the electorate ever forgive the Conservatives again for trouncing the economy?

Denigrate: Criticize unfairly.

You think that the current government comes in for unfair criticism?

They're lucky they're not being prodded to the stake with pitchforks for the display of complete ineptness and downright grandstanding with absolutely no plan or care for the future of the country.
Danny, I suggest you read around. Of course, everything you read is biased by some lens or other, but there's enough objective fact for you to research and form your own opinion. And my opinion is that there's corruption/sleaze/cronyism.

Here's an article from a couple of weeks ago, for example:

https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2020/aug/07/its-taken-just-12-months-for-boris-johnson-to-create-a-government-of-sleaze

OK, it's from The Guardian. But look at the facts of the case it's putting across, and there's enough there to pique an interest from any but the blindly faithful. This one article describes five cases:

* Prospermill
* Robert Jenrick / Richard Desmond
* £1M contracts to AI firm Faculty
* £840K contract to Public First
* PM's list of nominations to the House of Lords

And it doesn't even mention Dido Harding. Unlike this Spectator article ... a slightly more right-wing source:

https://www.spectator.co.uk/article/matt-hancock-will-regret-appointing-dido-harding

While that article is quite brutal about Dido Harding within the Government, it doesn't point out that, as well as her various governmental roles, she is on the board of the Jockey Club:

https://www.thejockeyclub.co.uk/about-us/our-structure/our-board/

Then you wonder why the Cheltenham Festival went ahead in March.
09.26 It's obvious that you prefer Agent Dom , TTT.
Ellipsis. I still don't see any proof of corruption, but hey ho it's the Guardian.Let's leave it at that.
still waiting for the detractors to tell me if they'd have preferred Labour in power. Come on don't be shy.
Danny, happy to leave it at that since it's off-topic to this thread.

TTT, I did tell you:

> In a choice between Crappy and Crappier, I'm not going to rejoice that Crappy won and has been even more Crappy than I expected ever since.

So no, I wouldn't have preferred Corbyn in power. I would have preferred better options than the utter dross that was presented to us. For many years now, it's been on a downward spiral. Ever since Thatcher's demise, in fact. And I don't see any prospect of reversing that, which is miserable.
you were a fan of TGL ellipsis? well I never! oh and thanks for your answer. Gromit? Allen?

I wouldn’t have preferred Corbyn and McDonnell in charge either, but the performance of what we got, Johnson and Sunak, has been far worse than my worse fears of Labour.
You wouldn't have preferred labour at the election but you now think they would be doing a better job? Right oh!
"Then you wonder why the Cheltenham Festival went ahead in March. "

Not that old chestnut again: at the time of the Festival, no other British sporting events had been cancelled.

In 2010 the nation debt was £987Billion. That was not good, and the Conservatives have constantly promised improvement, but have spectacularly not delivered.

Conservative Manifesto 2010
Promise: - Gordon Brown’s debt, waste and taxes have wrecked the economy and threaten to kill the recovery. A Conservative government will take action now, we will create a new economic model built on investment and savings, not borrowing and debt.
Result: - Borrowing and Debt increased further

Conservative Manifesto 2015
Promise: -The greatest impact a government can have on future generations is the amount it chooses to borrow to pay for current spending. Borrowing always means spending money you do not have; but government borrowing differs because the repayment falls to others – those who come later, including people not yet born. Conservatives believe in balancing the books and paying down debts – because it is wrong to pass to future generations a bill you cannot or will not pay yourself.
The next Conservative government will continue the difficult but necessary work of restoring our public finances while still ensuring that we are investing for the future.
Result: - The national debt continued to increase rapidly.

Conservative Manifesto 2017
Promise: - The ONS Office forecasts that the national debt is finally about to start falling.
Result: - It didn’t. Y March 2019 it had doubled since the Conservatives came into office.

Conservative Manifesto 2019
Promise: - Debt will be lower at the end of the Parliament – rather than spiralling out of control under Labour.
Result: - We won’t know for 5 years, but seems unlikely.
so who did you vote for in 2019 gromit?

Ickeria,
On the morning of Friday 13th March the FA, Premier League, EFL, Barclays FA Women’s Super League and FA Women’s Championship have collectively agreed to postpone the professional game in England until Friday 3 April at the earliest.

In the afternoon of Friday 13th March, Cheltenham went ahead. 250,000 attended the festival.
Gromit 11.46, You couldn't make it up really. But The Tories Managed it.

TTT,
// so who did you vote for in 2019 gromit? //

I told you at the time. I was disillusioned with all of them, so I voted for a Liberal Party candidate (not LibDem).

If the choice had been Starmer led Labour Party, I might have considered them.
you mean an independent?
