Regarding the hoax tapes/letters and given lots of other clues,police bosses shud have twigged much earlier that they were a hoax.

In one of the letters the writer failed to make reference to one of the murders when their had bn two in quick succession and before he wrote it.Boasting and taunting as he was he never mentioned it.

George Oldfield definitely made it a personal vendetta and wrongly placed all his eggs in one basket.

Officers of senior rank and experience should have known far better and completed the jigsaw far sooner.Sadly,it came too late for many more victims.

I think there is little doubt that George Oldfield got himself into an ego battle with 'Wearside Jack', to the detriment of the investigation, but we all have hindsight in the end.

Apparently there was one PC who interviewed Sutcliffe and was so suspicious he was desperate to push his boss to dig deeper.A long time later when news of a charge was made he really hoped it wasnt the guy he flagged up.

I can tell you truthfully that years back a complaint was made to Thames Valley Police CID about the late Saville and his sexual assaults and perverted interfering with young kiddies at Stoke Mandeville.
A young detective was assigned to make enquiries and investigate the allegation.
My source of this information was a uniformed officer who was attached to CID Admin as he was extremely good at collating files etc.
The Investigation got to the ears of the Cheif Constable of the day and the detective was summoned to 'meet' with him.
The detective was transferred and the files disappeared from the archives which my source was in charge of its safe keeping and updating.
Senior Officers are so concerned for their future knighthoods and rewards they would sell their soul to the devil.
It's the same in most police forces when you delve into Bradford and the peadophilia scandle.The cover ups in the Met with regard to certain senior MPs. These sudden closures all come down from the top.

No. I learnt of it from the retired officer about 2 or three years ago when a lot of ex and serving police officers were chatting about the, then, current furore about the Pakistani mass Paedophile grooming gangs as well as Cyril Smith's antics. Next time we all meet up I'll ask him what year this all happened though Bisley Range is shut down and I'm unlikely to speak to him until the new year.
