AH, it seems none of you have a grasp of either book. If you had you would know why one is open to interpretation ad the other not.

Can we get back to the OP now?
If its not TROP, then its some schizophrenic off his meds.
[i]the Bible doesn't instruct the reader to pluck out other people’s eyes or to cut off other people’s hands[i]

actually, it does demand the cutting off of hands, in limited circumstances. I don't know why AB's biblical scholars are so keen to deny it.
Jno - read the teachings of Jesus.
naomi - // AH, I’ll ignore your nonsense but simply say this is at least the third thread I’ve seen where you’ve laid into Theland on the same issue. //

And I'll ignore yours - along with the hypicrisy that you send threads into the hundreds with your arguments with Theland - as I said, apparently it's OK for you to do it ...
read Deuteronomy 25, Theland. Or look up the fate of Adoni-Bezek. It's your book, you should know these things.
naomi - // AH, it seems none of you have a grasp of either book. If you had you would know why one is open to interpretation ad the other not. //

Anything and everything is open to interpretation, if anyone wishes it to be so.

The idea that you can declaim that the bible has wriggle room when it suits, and the Koran does not, is simply your interpretation, which rather proves my point.
Question Author
theland, Jesus doesn't come up until the sequel! Gawd I know more about it and I'm an atheist!
2 Samuel 4:12

Then David commanded the young men, and they killed them and cut off their hands and feet and hung them up beside the pool in Hebron. But they took the head of Ish-bosheth and buried it in the grave of Abner in Hebron.

Theland - //

It may be both, or neither, but then jumping to conclusions on no evidence is a feature of your posts rather than mine.
// you're both dancing with glee, be careful not to slip on the drool.//

I wondered if " it was higher than a duty to point out the failings and cruelty of the act - it had become a pleasure "
(Oscar wilde - but applies here)
Andy, I've reached that point where I need a cup of tea and a biscuit.
By the way, Muslims consider the Koran, not inspired, but a mirac!e, as they believe it was given to Mo verbatim and cannot ever be changed.
Why not just wait for the facts to be revealed?

Speculating a muslim or a mental case before we know anything is pointless. In a few hours we will have a name, and whether they were known to the authorities for terrorist connections, or by mental health providers.

It has the MO of a terrorist attack, but we should hold fire until that is confirmed.
quite so, Sunk. All they've said so far is that he's a 51-year-old German.
Theland - // By the way, Muslims consider the Koran, not inspired, but a mirac!e, as they believe it was given to Mo verbatim and cannot ever be changed. //

Contrary to the lofty (and incorrect most of the time) views of our fellow poster Naomi, I am aware of the basic pricniples of the two faiths, and their difference.

I do not believe that the difference negates the ability of any individual to interpret his or her holy text in a way that they are comfortable with - and I that any worshiper on any faith does exactly that.

You as a Christian must be aware that to literally carry out each and every word of the bible is simply not possible, so you take the bits that work for you, and apply them.

No problem - unless of course you deny that same principle to any other faith, in this case Islam - because that is simply religious superiority, and again, it has no place in your belief system.
PP 15:40. Of course Oscar's literary humour is a tad wittier than my own.
'Speculating a muslim or a mental case before we know anything is pointless'

How very dare you, Sunk. Pointless speculation is what keeps AB afloat
AH, //The idea that you can declaim that the bible has wriggle room when it suits, and the Koran does not//

That is not what I claim.

Neither jno’s nor zac’s posts are relevant.

Why people are so eager to distance these acts of terrorism from the source is beyond me - because until we are prepared to acknowledge that source we have no hope of combatting it.
// People are dead at the hands of yet another madman.//
and we are at the mercy of yet another mad writer/poster

by the time of 2 Samuel - the record is deffo historical. In Egypt we were digging up - ---
Mainstream scholars agree that Taharqa is the Biblical "Tirhakah", king of Ethiopia (Kush), who waged war against Sennacherib during the reign of King Hezekiah of Judah (2 Kings 19:9;)
(or 4 kings in LXX) and that is around 660BC which we er egyptologists wd look on as rather late.

cuneiform tablet has turned up reconfirming the name of Hezekiah's jailer - putting the noses of the those who believe that the OT is inerrant, rather out of joint
Naomi, how is my post irrelevant when, as part of this thread you've written 'the Bible doesn't instruct the reader to pluck out other people’s eyes or to cut off other people’s hands' and mine proves that it does?
