Can someone please explain to me why the EUSSR thinks it has any right to demand access to our waters for fishing. On what basis? ok so the French/Spanish fishermen will be annoyed if we stop them hoovering up the sea but that's not basis for claiming a right is it?

To see how the EU operates, see who stood against Ursula Con De Lyon for her job as head of a democratic body - nobody!
From top to bottom the EU is corrupt.
A European superstate in other words.
that was for Piggynose.
You could equally say 'Why does the UK, having left the EU of its own accord, think it has a right to tariff-free trade with the EU?".
It's a negotiation where both sides try to get the best deal they can.
A dictatorship run by a Kremlin style politburo.
It is our water when it is full of illegal immigrants but their waters when it is full of fish. Nobody chucks anything back either.
well we have left for good or ill, now its the turn of those in power to get the best deal possible, if no deal then so be it - its going to take a long time to progress forward but we must at least try and see ahead
A good point, Togo.

sedge: "You could equally say 'Why does the UK, having left the EU of its own accord, think it has a right to tariff-free trade with the EU?". - no that's not analogous, our waters are our own not theirs. We or they do not have a "right" to a free trade deal but it is in the interests of us both, unreasonable demands from one side do not help. We are not predicating a free trade deal on something that is wholly owned by the EUSSR. eg if we said we want to be able to plunder the French Vinyards in return for a deal then that would be analogous.
Excellently put, TTT.
In answer to the OP, on the basis that we only have a few rowing boats to patrol British waters. Who's gonna stop 'em?

10cs, usual anti British tripe, we ain't defenceless. Anyway mostly our own fishermen will do it.
Luv it! :o)
All a lack of trading arrangements is going to do is make British fish too expensive to sell abroad.
To people who might not be best disposed to buy it anyway :-)
Anyway TTT, I presume our fishermen want to fish, not start playing at being the military.

ich: "All a lack of trading arrangements is going to do is make British fish too expensive to sell abroad. " - see my post at 09:00, we currently import our own fish back, we can stop doing that and be self sufficient.
It doesn't think it has a right to tariff-free trade with the EU, it sees tariff free trade as an advantage to both parties and thought that trade talks would be a good time to discuss it. Apparently the EU have decided they can do without it unless they control the other nation. Common decency wrt behaviour apparently a foreign concept to them.

10cs, yes but we are talking about the rules, not law breakers. If the EUSSR boats break the law they'll be dealt with. At the moment I am concerned with what would be the legal position on 1/1/2021. If foreign boats are sighted illegally in our waters it'll be by our own fishermen that spot them, they can report it and the authorities will deal with it. Board and confiscate the catch should do the trick.
When they find insufficient fish to meet demand their traders will find a nearby supply to fill the demand as cheaply as possible. Besides, the EU isn't the only market.
Confiscate the boat and hold the lawbreakers for trial might be better. But I'm no legal expert. One probably has to hand both back.
