i have to agree the ban is correct, animal suffering for some archaic religious belief
this ban should be in all western countries, as a meat eater myself i would not want the animal
to suffer, call me a hypocrite err vegans would but i do actually care about them suffering.

Animal rights activists never mention halal meat, as they are part and parcel of the same set of people that have unwavering support of the Muslim communities and all their traditions, so they would be tearing themselves inside out trying to reconcile the two issues, so they just ignore it.

My daughter is a vegan eco-warrior (she owns her own home and has a very responsible job not connected to veganism or eco issues) and does very much protest against Halal slaughter and there has been many demonstrations about it, such as this one

I think the media choose not to report many of the demonstrations, petitions and campaigns that people like my daughter get involved with.

is meat halal in UK?
Even in non-Muslim countries, the amount of halal food, including meat, being sold and consumed is surprisingly high. For example, halal meat now accounts for 70% of New Zealand's total lamb exports to the United Kingdom, while 100% of the meat slaughtered in Paris, France is already halal (see Sharia law in Europe a

Emmie, chicken sold in supermarkets and in take away and many restaurants is slaughtered in accordance with Halal.
I must stress though that most Halal slaugherhouses do stun prior to slaughter Kosher slaughterhouses don't stun but that meat doesn't get in to mainstream outlets.
" Between 84 and 90 per cent of animals killed for halal meat in the UK are processed by one of the large number of halal slaughterhouses which do use electric stunning beforehand."

"While there are no official statistics on halal production in New Zealand, nearly all of New Zealand's red meat export slaughter premises are certified to undertake slaughter in compliance with halal requirements. This gives the New Zealand red meat industry the flexibility to export different cuts from a single carcass to the best-returning markets. The industry currently serves some 120 markets worldwide."

There is a very large chicken slaughter house a few miles from me and my friend is the manager. All the chicken is Halal. I was able to watch the process and all the birds were stunned. The only difference is that there is taped Islamic blessing piped out on a loop.
Let's be clear about this - slaughter is not nice whether it is chickens, cows, sheep or pigs. Abattoirs are horrible, noisy places and having an Islamic blessing recited on a taped loop makes no real difference to the process. Nearly all animals that have been killed in the UK and NZ in a way that it can be labelled Halal has been stunned prior to slaughter. It should be every animal.
