Belgian Ban On Halal And Kosher Slaughter
i have to agree the ban is correct, animal suffering for some archaic religious belief
this ban should be in all western countries, as a meat eater myself i would not want the animal
to suffer, call me a hypocrite err vegans would but i do actually care about them suffering.

Animal rights activists never mention halal meat, as they are part and parcel of the same set of people that have unwavering support of the Muslim communities and all their traditions, so they would be tearing themselves inside out trying to reconcile the two issues, so they just ignore it.

Tesco,Sainsbury,Morrisons and Waitrose admitted about 2 years ago that they were selling Halal and Kosher meats . They weren't clearly labelled and so people were just picking those meats up and buying them not knowing they were Halal. The supermarkets were then supposed to labeling the Halal meats more clearly but I don't know whether they have done so.
Slaughtering of animals is a horrible way to kill them even if they are stunned first but to hang them up , then slit their throats and let their life's blood drain away is just about the most despicable thing to do to any animal. Halal slaughter is an outdated ,inhumane religious ritual and should NOT be carried out in any country let alone a Christian country like the UK. It's barbaric. Where are the R.S.P.C.A.?

ladybirder, you cannot believe a word of that rag. NZ slaughterhouses do not pay fees to 'Islamists'.
Waitrose is going to stop selling NZ lamb but not because it is Halal. They are doing it to support British farmers, not just for lamb.
Waitrose has not said that it will not sell lamb that has been slaughtered in the UK under Halal rules.

emmie--^^ When the Asians started coming to Rochdale in the 60s.They opened several shops . They did have some different foods and were quite interesting shops to visit. However the smell from the meat section was so disgusting it used to knock me sick so I had to stop going to their shops. Goodness knows what they were doing in the rooms behind the meat counter.
We wouldn't all be vegetarians if we knew what went on in slaughterhouses, emmie. I've been to a few and still eat meat, my friend the slaughterhouse manager eats meat.
There was an interesting documentary on tv a few years ago. It was about fashion students who had a particular interest in making clothes from leather. The volunteered to watch the tanning process from slaughter to finished product. They found it very hard to watch the slaughter and some of them vowed never to eat meat or use leather again.
They all got over that within a week :)

I think it a brave decision. I'm far from convinced those practices are not cruel. Good luck to them. That other slaughter or husbandry practices could be improved is besides the point. As is suggesting everyone go on faddy weird diets. If an individual wants to, that's their choice, but in nature life feeds on life. The aim is not to be cruel about it.
