// Canary - This has nothing to do with Boris! If people followed the guidelines maybe we wouldn't be where we currently are. This is the public's fault. //

Nah, not a scrap of evidence that the increase in transmissions is due to people not following the guidelines. Hardly any prosecutions, hardly any known clusters.
Dave - I was in hospital last weekend. It was chaotic.

Sorry to all the responsible drinkers but it is linked to a reduction in normal responsible behaviour, people get closer, more touchy feely, its the reason large groups are still gathering. It would need serious restriction and checks on the local stores with off licences as part of the business, many of them are already a focus for anti-social behaviour in small communities.

Nah.

// its the reason large groups are still gathering //

No it isn’t. Large groups are not impromptu gathering, and not because of alcohol. Some large groups are gathering because they are praying to god. Large groups (hundreds of people) are doing their weekly shop together in supermarkets, hundreds of children, and their parents are meeting at the school gates. That is happening everyday in every town in the UK.

There might be one or two isolated incidents of people meeting for a drink but certainly not widespread. And the law can sort them out for breaching numbers, no need to bring in prohibition.

If you want law and order to break down completely try banning the sale of alcohol. Pubs, perhaps, but sale of alcohol for private consumption at home? Have no lessons been learnt from American prohibition?
Sorry most churches and other places of worship that are open have put social distancing measures in place, but I agree shut everyone of them we don't need religion of any flavour. We do need food, cleaning materials, and personal hygiene items. We don't need alcohol. Might reduce some of the supermarket traffic
Have you ever watched the behaviour at an office party. As alcohol consumption rises inhibitions fade. People who normally have a personal space requirement within the normal range hug, stand ever closer, and other very close activities. People who are drinking often talk louder, increasing droplet and aerosol production, they may start singing, Churches have stopped congregations singing hymns. Then they leave, still disinhibited, to travel on public transport, not aware enough to be careful of others. It wouldn't be for long, and many will be doing Dry January anyway.
//One thing I would seriously consider is stopping the sale of alcohol.//

What's the rationale behind that, then?

If we go into lockdown , I'd imagine the majority of people could forgo alcohol for that period , not alcoholics of course
Anything that lowers people's compliance with the restrictions by reducing self control needs managing somehow. We are still doing down the restriction route and it's become obvious there are some who cannot behave appropriately, and with consideration to others.

Mrs NJ and I have a G&T a couple of nights a week and a bottle of wine on the night we would have gone out for a meal but for this fiasco. How does our self-control need managing?

Yours doesn't it's as simple as that but those who take to the streets after buying alcohol in their local off licence or supermarket, that's the ones not complying
Yours doesn 't but like so many other aspects of the controls they have to affect everyone to try to stop the irresponsible or thoughtless behaviour of what may be a minority.

You say this is my normal so I am entitled to continue..... My normal was swimming three times a week, basically immersing myself in dilute bleach and keeping well away from other users. I accept that others can't use such facilities safely so they must be denied to all, ( Even when the pool was open they closed the changing rooms so no women over a certain age or size would go)
Others may say their norm is meeting their mates every Friday night and getting ratarsed, they might say they go to a pub with a garden or with well separated tables and walk there and back and all live alone and are under 30 so they are not really at risk or a risk to others it's all on the same continuum and I get a bit fed up with people saying I am not part of the problem, what I do is fine, and I have a right to do x or y..... But you doing it, says it's ok for everyone. we need rules without exemptions until the vaccine is fully rolled out.
If they stop the sale of alcohol I wonder how long my 72 bottles of gin will last?
At least you can still buy tonic....
they should fetch quite a good price on the dark web, Martin
Lol who needs tonic?
Sell it ? Over my dead body ;-)
//...but those who take to the streets after buying alcohol in their local off licence or supermarket, that's the ones not complying//

And do you believe that those same people will remain indoors if they are prevented from buying alcohol?
