My wife and I and our children were banned from travelling 12 miles to spend Xmas day wife my wife’s mum and dad, but travelling to Barbados was ok.

Nope, he went to the Caribbean a few weeks ago. Just going to an airport is incredibly dumb at 100 years old.

100 years old, a final year, honoured by the Queen, National hero, a full life, Memorial flight honouring him.......I would settle for that.

He had a Number 1 hit record that must have made him £thousands. He knows he is dying very soon so he *** off from cold wet Bedfordshire to a sunny and warm Barbados. Hope he enjoyed his holiday.

He inspired people to donate by doing something he was well able to do. There was nothing wrong with that and gave many a focus at a horrid time.
To then see a picture of him and his family having a "well deserved break" is an insult to those who donated and those for whom the money was raised.

I can think of many who have done more than he did and won't see a truly well deserved break for a very long time.

As for using his age to say it's okay. I don't accept age as an excuse for rudeness as so often happens so I don't accept his age as an excuse for this.

He has not had his Covid jab because they couldn't give it to him while he had pneumonia. The pneumonia came first, then Covid on top.

Good luck, Captain Sir Tom, and I fear you sure are going to need it.

He does have choices. As do I. I would never choose to take advantage of freebies to take my family on holiday at a time like this. A time when my family could harm so many others.

There is right and wrong. This holiday was wrong.

It's not like he did anything illegal. He, like many people, went on holiday between lockdown 2 and lockdown 3.

You must look at what is happening, think for yourself and do what is best for all in those circumstances. Not just for your family.

That family had a responsibility not just to Captain Tom himself, but to their children and all those that they and the children would come into contact with during and after that holiday.

I recently answered on AB that I worried for the future of the UK because I doubted people could pull together in the new normal.
Pulling together needs to start now.
What you have done, your age, how much you deserve a break must not be a reason or excuse for not considering the consequences of your actions.

He would have had to have a negative covid test result before arriving there and another one on arrival before quarantining for 48 hours so he was hardly a risk to the whole of Barbados. Good luck to him. I hope he enjoyed what would probably be a last holiday and I hope he recovers.

Have you considered his grandchildren going back to school when they returned, 237?
Those his children may have been in contact with on their return?

All for a last holiday?

That is why I despair of the UK ever pulling together.
